You can not check it if the job is done right. Someone who is doing this job can see with a microscope for solderings etc inside dash and ecm module. Other method is make a call in a BMW dealer give him VIN and ask for history of car and kilometers.

2. select 'E46'
3. select 'Body'
4. select 'Light switch center LSZ'
5. select 'Coding data'
6. select 'SII-data'
7. read values in 'read trip-counter [100 km]' value multiplied by x100
