New to Mercedes Diagnostic Systems - fusername - 08-02-2016

Hello all dears. I am completely new for Mercedes tools and softwares. I want to buy a dealer tool from China but first I will ask your advices:

- As far as I understand, I should buy C4 instead of C5, as Chinese C5 tools are using C4 features (I didn't understand this thing well, b ut I decided to pick C4). is this a good idea?

- Which computer should I buy? Can I install the software on any computer via virtual machine? (I think yes). If yes, which windows should I install on that virtual machine, which sections should I part my virtual HDD and about how much size each? (I saw such C: and D: etc. on some mercedes computers).

-I must install the softwares in Turkish language. Are the softwares multilangual? What I mean, if I download a ready-setup-virtual programs from forums, can I completely change their language to Turkish after running the programs?

I will be extremely happy if you help me about these subjects. Thank you all in advance.

Go with C4,
C5 are out-there, original-ones and there are pricey, i see them on ebay here and there sometimes
(
Note C5 is NOT FOR SALE in USA, ***ONLY LEASE**
On ebay it could be that you are buying stolen one
)
China made ones are C4 in package of C5

New OpenDos or Xdos is made to run on Win7 32bit and it's in AHCI-Mode(2~3GBs)
Old Xentry made to run ONLY on WIN-XP and it's in ATA mode (40~70MBs)
It's best to download Virtual off internet Torrent or Other internet source
Just make sure it's been patched for C4 and not C3 or else patch your self(it's available here on forum and on other internet portals)
It's semi-simple to change language on OpenDos and Xentry (i'm not sure for EPC or WIS, i have not tried it. But there is an option in settings)
Size for OpenDos Win7 32bit is about 80-90GB
Size for Old Xentry Win XP is about 70-85GB

Make sure to Buy Touch screen laptop since IT'S VERY CONVENIENT to use with Xentry/OpenDos

I use d6430-ATG(ATG--Touch Screen) ebay around $120-$300 (i bought mine for $13x) MANY Lenovo's DO NOT HAVE big batteries as D64x0 series
Make sure to choose SSD since loading it off HDD is not as fast
Now a days SSD 480~500 $120-200 ( i bought couple of new-ones not that long ago on sale for $79 each 480GB)

Anyway, which ever way you will go you will have to deal with problems
If you choose C3 there is C3 problems
If you Choose C4 there is C4 problems
If you choooooooooseeee something else there is something else problems

Opendos Xentry - Xdos: New diagnosys software, works with windows 7
Das Xentry: Previous diagnosys software, works with XP
EPC: Electronic parts catalogue
WIS: Workshop information system - The WIS contains detailed instructions for repair work. It provides information on vehicle-specific
retrofits and any effects these may have on mainten
ance or repairs

@ CATAHA

Which software is better? Xentry Opendos or Das Xentry? Could you explain the benefits of each one?

Thanks in advance!

From what i remember back in my computer repair days ....
OpenDOS is an emulator, similar to Virtual Machine now a days
Main purpose of it, to have a 4Bit && 8bit && 16Bit programms run on newer processors and newer Operation Systems, now a days mostly common are 64 and 32 bit, newer systems are going to be either 128 or 256 bit cause it's already time for it to hit the market
Anyways... I'm thinking that HW is either 8bit or 16 Bit program mostly used on pre 2000~1 cars
Then DAS kicked in and works on 2001~2009
Then Xentry kicks in from 2008 ~ current
So you just have to figure out on what cars you work mostly to know what too choose either OpenDOS Xentry or Plain Xentry
Any ways in a year or two we will eventually switch on to either OpenDOS version or completely something else

I used OpenDOS and Plain version and i have not seen a difference on how it works, other then the Boot-up Speed, Opening program speed, maybe 2~7 seconds faster
CAN communication protocol is at LOW speed now a days, maybe in 2~5 years when inside of a CAR protocols are going to be changed to Higher speed that's when will see the deference in OpenDOS version vs Plain Xentry

I give you an example i have one version that's 2013 and another version is 2015 and another version is 2006
Before last year i work on cars mostly pre-2008 now many customers for last two months bought new cars 2004~2012 so now i see alot of those cars but still DO NOT SEE 2014~2016 and so far at the moment there is NO NEED to switch on too 2016 version cause most HW/DAS/Xentry/WIS/EPC stuff still sufficient for me too work on cars smile
