BMW Omitec cable - Enabled - 20-11-2016

Hi everyone. I happened across an original BMW OMITEC USB cable, and I can hardly find any documentation about it. It works very well, and is extremely well built and robust. Very easy to carry around instead of the larger ICOM.

I have more specific questions if it can work with older L-Line modules ('ADS' modules) with a 20-pin adapter?
I have looked through the official documentation, and see that the OMITEC 'Desktop" has L-Line on pin 15 of the interface parallel port, but wanted to know if the OMITEC USB needs an adapter, or what kind of wiring to communicate to L-Line, if possible.

The OMITEC USB and OMITEC "Desktop" uses the same drivers, firmware, and communication settings.

If anyone knows more, I appreciate any answers.

Whats the difference from K+DCan?

RE: BMW Omitec cable - Enabled - 21-11-2016

Well it doesn't look like any K+DCAN I've ever seen.
It is powered by +12V vehicle power, not USB port...

Heavy duty machined body

gold plated spring pins, in a machined body

Infineon Processor?, FTDI FT245BM

The opposite outer side

Some other documentation, AM29F400BB memory

Version history, capabilities

It is approved to Diagnose, Code, Flash any BMW up to date (AFAIK).

Its old interface. Been around a long time.

There are lots of interfaces that work with BMW EDIBAS the most popular interface being a EDICblue from softing which gets new firmware and is rebanded as a VAS tool

Not supports work with ADS modules (E34 and so )
Works well from E39

RE: BMW Omitec cable - Enabled - 22-11-2016

I know it is an older interface, but still supported and updated by BMW. Still shows up in ISTA VCI Config.
Very easy to carry around instead of large ICOM for quick jobs.

Thank you for replies, I was hoping it to do L-line like Omitec Desktop, oh well.
EDIC is interesting, as I always wondered what it looked like when seeing it in ediabas.ini

Is possible to use Omitec at VAG?

RE: BMW Omitec cable - Enabled - 08-01-2017

I have never tried it as a passthrough device. I will look into it, testing on my VW with ODIS. Very interesting idea!
