Xprog programming device silent error - dil6222 - 16-02-2018

Hello all messed about with my xprog removed original atmega and hotair another atmega on so I could program it programmed verify etc ok.

Then when I soldered back my original atmega there was loud pop from somewhere the only place I can guess is the 11mhz crystal or 4.7pf capacitor is only thing that's near. Tryed it and xprog gives device silent error I tried to reprogram atmega but wouldn't program verify errors so i soldered new one on and programmed OK so maybe was MCU that went pop unsure lol.

Now when I plug in my xprog and try to read any chip I get device silent error still and no LEDs on xprog lightup i can reprogram atmega no problems but still same device silent error.

Any ideas ?
Maybe 4.7pf cap or 11.0592 crystal just below MCU ?

Thanks volavka firmware isnt the issue I don't think tried to flash the firmware you posted still get device silent.

So maybe is caps its as if xprog doesn't wake not sure any ideas ?

Update :tried changing the 4.7uf cap and 11mhz crystal next to MCU no difference still same error what led usually comes on when you plug in xprog green ?

Found a cap on underside of board if I hold my voltage tester between the two ends for a second while usb plugged in white bulb on xprog comes on red and stays on until I unplug.
when I plug in again it is off till I put tester between pins so might be part of problem anyone got any idea what capacitor I could replace it with ? Also seems about right as pop came from around crystal area near MCU and and the underside cap I mentioned is attached to one of the crystals legs maybe heat from crystal while I was changing MCU popped it smile

Here

Right one in circle attached to 11mhz crystal leg just below smile need to substitute it temporarily value cap I could use anyone?
Update:
a lot of schematics that use atmega64 has 2 x 22pf caps on legs of crystal so gonna try that first let you know results later

I had same problem, always device silent or sometime start to read but after 15% error, i change my usb cable by new good quality and since no problem.

Hmm don't think it the issue as was working fine before I decided to desolder MCU to program another now since no lights on xprog and device silent error.

maybe you test your xprog like I see on picture up with wires steel on programing pads and 2GND together like I did in past..

Not sure what you mean explain please smile what pads where and how to test smile

Also what led should be on when plugged in USB and working normal ? Green 1 or the white led that can be green or red ?

He means you must disconnect the programmer from xprog before testing xprog functions

Yeah done that no difference smile not solved yet still working on it now building PCB so I can program atmega64 standalone without it being on xprog board smile
Thinking about it I pinout programming pins to dsub 9 socket so can plug direct to upa and unplug but the 2 grounds are still connected together when socket is unplugged maybe cause issue I'll check.

RE: Xprog programming device silent error - mrbingo - 11-06-2019

Hi. You fix this error. I have same problem?

I got a xprog for free. it is 5.48 on it with another sticker 5.50.
on the cd version was 5.50 on it. the problem is that it does not work. When I connect xprog in the usb it is recognized but it does not respond to anything. it always comes the message "Device is Silence"
There are no LED lights .. when writing, reading or something

I tried to read atmega64 with tl866 but it does not find the atmega64.
