Attempt to flash CIC Japan with Europe ZUSB - willisodhiambo - 03-07-2018

I would like to flash a Japanese CIC with European ZUSB to enable the radio "lock" into higher FM frequency. This is on LCI Japanese E90s. Attempts to code radio country in Japanese LCI E90 CICs result in expanded frequency but radio fails to actually tune in. No idea why.

Looking at the latest datens there are 5 or so ZUSBs. I have used the SA-option helper to check what each of them have as options and then omitted Japan as country option and picked a ZUSB that has Japan as not an option. Well, they all have it as an option!! They are 9283425/18/19/20/23/27. I chose 9283418

I hen created three folders develop_63, develop_62 and develop_A0 following some instructions I found in the net for flashing European CIC.

Now I am waiting for the car to be ready. I am not sure it will work because I am also suspicious the Japanese CIC may be hardware different from the other versions but no harm trying. Will post results.

Flashing with WINKFP expert mode.

You do realize that as soon as you put ECE firmware on Asian CIC, your navigation FSC Code will convert, and you can no longer run any Asian (e.g. Japan) map?

First sentence is "This is for ECE/US CIC, not for Asian variants." OP has Asian CIC.

Shawn, you are a trusted hand at this. I don't need any maps. The car is in Kenya and we do not have BMW maps here so navigation is useless.

Do you think my approach is right? Can it really be that the software used in Japan could be the issue causing the units to not tune to FM above 90mHz. Ill probably give it at go this weekend

Well.....this is the post I used to prepare my daten files!!

If you look carefully you notice it uses V41 datens which I think came before the E90LCI. Since I am not sure whether the LCI CIC from Japan is compatible with V41 I did not want to risk it. So I prepared my own files following this post but with 2017 ISTAP datens.

You can flash the cic to ece firmware after that code to ece default and you're done.
Did it once and the unit works flawless.

The idea of using V41 is because APPS is not locked to an FSC but if you need an FSC pack let me know, happy to help you.

Have you tried just coding HU_CIC => RADIO_COUNTRY = ECE and optionally HU_CIC => FM_DEEMPHASIS = 50us?

Yes. You get expanded FM BUT RADIO DOES NOT TUNE IN! Manual tuning goes over 90mHZ but radio tuner stops internally at 90mHZ. Strange!! And your lines look like F series coding lines. They are a little different in the E series but idea is the same

Thanks. However I looked at V41 ZUSB in the history file for e90 and none of those exist so I don't want to take a risk with that version. I guess the datens in that cannot be used if they are not in the E90 LCI history file. Right?

Exactly what I want to do. Was yours E90 LCI? Which ZUSB did you use? If I can establish that I will approach this more confidently with the knowledge that someone has tried it before and it worked.

@willisodhiambo
I used the latest zusb. Load a recent data pack and update zusb in the correct order.
You can load a custom fsc pack. If you have an icom I can do it for you.
