RE: BMW ISTA-D Rheingold 3.44.30 + 3.44.40 + 3.44.50 (EN, DE, CN, RU) - tinkerman - 04-10-2014

Thanks again to zekan23!

Finally got 3.44.50 Update running. In my case I had to to update onto a previously up and running 3.42.40.

For some reason, trying to update onto 3.44.40 kept resulting in that error about not being able to access some databases*.
* Even after multiple processing for 'Unblocking' files with Windows Powershell 4.

[ QUESTIONS ]
1. I did NOT copy the Ediabas folder in the 3.44.50.12300 Update package into the C:\Program Files\Rheingold (folder), because this Ediabas folder's files seem to already be in my C:\EDIABAS (folder). Is there any reason that this Ediabas folder and its contents(52 files in the 3.44.50 update's Ediabas folder) need to be in C:\Program Files\Rheingold (folder)?(or C:\EDIABAS ?) My C:\EDIABAS folder seems to have all the 52 files(same dates) and more (total of 207files).

2. During the copying process of the 3.44.50 Update files onto the C:\Program Files\Rheingold (folder), my system's AVAST (anti-virus program) detected a 'suspicious' file and placed it under 'quarantine'(Virus Chest). The file is:

ABL_DIT_AT1214_ER_KS.dll
(from 'Testmodule' folder - categorized as 'Win32:Evo-gen [Susp]')

A. Can anyone confirm if this is a 'false positive' or a legit problem?

B. Does anyone know the function of this file? (in Rheingold, if it is a 'false positive').

Thanks in advance bros...

Look at https://www.virustotal.com/cs/file/f87c59c69569aab14668358e4e3c25b46f7ac5b3b4e72e167fbc0bb7f83265aa/analysis/1412439476/ or
DIY test multifunction antivirus in https://www.virustotal.com/ . I found a similar message, but to me it is a legal activity program.

How did you update of old version ? I have Rheingold 3.41 running and I am wondering if I need to uninstall or if I can start installation of a newer version over the old. Any info will be much appreciated.

After Rheingold 3.41, the versions that got 'shared'(that I encountered) consisted only of the 'update' files without the 'installer' feature. As long as there is already a version installed such as 3.39 / 3.41, all that is required is for the contents of the newer 'Rheingold' archive folder to replace the previous version/installation's 'Rheingold' folder in the C: drive's Program Files folder.

In my case, I had installed 3.39, then 3.41 through normal 'installer' process including entering license text and replacing the RheingoldCoreFramework file etc. Then with 3.42 I just replaced the Rheingold folder's contents of 3.41(deleted) with 3.42(copied). There is no need for the whole 'installation process'.

I was able to update from 3.41 to 3.42, 3.44.30, 3.44.40 sequentially over the immediately previous version.

But when I tried to update to 3.44.50, over 3.44.40, I kept getting the error message about not being able to access some databases, even though I 'Unblocked' the archive while unpacking as well as running the Windows PowerShell 4 to 'Unblock' further the unpacked archive files. So I tried updating over 3.42 by the copying process, and there is no more error message.

Note: I was able to do the above because I am doing these installations on VMs(virtural machines) running in WinXP as guest OS in Win7 x64 Host system. Therefore, when going from 3.44.40 to 3.44.50 was giving me error message issues after the update, I just deleted the 3.44.50 VM(with issues), reloaded my 3.42 VM, and applied the 3.44.50 Rheingold folder updates to the 3.42 VM's Rheingold folder (after deleting its contents first and excluding the 'Ediabas' folder contents of this 3.44.50 update-as it seems to be redundant* considering my EDIABAS installation in the C: drive).
* I'm still waiting for any confirmation regarding whether the 'Ediabas' folder in the 3.44.50 Rheingold archive needs to be in there or not (or if these files need to be 'copy and replaced' into the existing C:\EDIABAS installation). In the meantime, Rheingold 3.44.50 seems to be fine without the 'Ediabas' folder's contents (included in this 3.44.50 update's archive).

Why bother with VMs? Because I can just delete the entire large installation to make room on my space limited internal SSD. Then just copy the saved VM onto the internal SSD again when needed without having to deal with installation. The saved VM is usually compressed to about 50% or less of unpacked size via RAR5, saving valuable external drive space. It also works as a security 'sandbox'.

Speaking of saving drive space... you can delete any language file(s) you don't need from the SQLiteDBs folder. For example, I don't need Russian or Chinese so I deleted:

'xmlvalueprimitive_RU.sqlite' (5.1GB)
'xmlvalueprimitive_ZHCN.sqlite' (4.7GB)
'streamdataprimitive_RU.sqlite' (8.7MB)
'streamdataprimitive_ZHCN.sqlite' (8.2MB)

Cheers...
