Hi, I have an original pic v5 opcom now please forgive me if this has been asked before but I have been trawling the site and not been able to find an answer.... will this run yhe hq software or is it still only the standard opcom /vauxcom versions it upgrades and downgrades firmwares fine but would just like a definitive answer

thanks in advance and again apollogies if I have missed it on the site

You can only run the HQ software using an HQ interface, don't try running HQ software with a standard china clone interface or you could brick it.

This is just crap. If it is china clone with real PIC hardware wise it is identical to HQ clone. Using HQ software you can't brick china clone with real PIC. The only thing that you might do is screw up (HQ software actually does it when 2 bytes checksum of FTDI ID are wrong) RX/TX pin in FTDI which practically disables access to PIC (original "hacker" who created HQ clone thought that would be a "great" protection).
But solution for that is fairly simple, one just need to reflash FTDI config (MProg does the job) and voila everything works again.

Hi all,
I'm really new to this so bear with me

My question is can you copy the 'firmware' off a HQ clone and use it on a chine clone if the hardware is the same? Is it possible if someone has access to a HQ Clone can they copy the code off it ? Will this work ? Also ... can the FTDI ID be copied of the HQ clone to the china clone?

Thanks for you help

My second question is related to the actual PIC

Now it has this new MCU - PIC18F45K80 which cannot be upgeaded/downgraded
At the begging it was made with real Pic18F458 and the hardware was similat with opcom v5
Now they changed the Pic and its seems its hardware its similar as opcom v6
Good luck

@mattydr67
Is there an easy way to distinct between these two chips? If there is a marking such as "Pic18F458" like on the picture can this be trusted that it's the original one ?

RE: VAUX-COM 120309a+131223d+Ocflash_FW1.59 - mattydr67 - 08-12-2015

First of all you cannot only copy/paste (flash) the ftdi with a dump from a HQ clone to a china clone.
Each HQ clobe has its diffrent dump
Secondly then that one its seems to be a real Pic18F458 MCU but to be sure you have to check if there is C22 and D5 near to it.
In the new designe tool pcb sorry I don't know. Never had in my hand and I do not intrested in it. The new opcom v5 tools are very good made
Good luck

Thank you for your answer matty!
If I understood correctly, each ftdi chip has its different value set in order for it to work with the software and each HQ clone has its ftdi modified for each board/pcb.

What about cloning the database like in this case - 120309a+131223d - taking the Database from 131223d. Are the newer software versions protected in some other way to prevent people from copying the Database?

RE: VAUX-COM 120309a+131223d+Ocflash_FW1.59 - mattydr67 - 08-12-2015

Each FTDI dump is different not for each PCB. You can take the FTDI from a PCB and solder in other PCB and it will works

Database its marriaged with the exe file of that version (opcom.exe) and for each tool you need a License.dat
Otherwise if you only copy/paste the LangData you will only see new car in the list but the it will work only what its covered by the real version

Good luck

Ok... so I've been scouring the Internet cause there's all this info, but no one has gone trough the trouble of explaining this in a simple way ...

From what I read above, stmilosh is saying the problem is with the ID checksum;
I found some pictures online for software that reads the IDs and the checksum from the dump. So does this mean the ID and the checksum can be read but cannot be cloned? I guess some of the ID values are build in or am I wrong (facepalm) fail Otherwise 1:1 ID and checksum clones would be identical to the hq ones?

Hi, I wonder which model is my opcom Chinese clone. and if I can raise / lower fireware. I have open and I not see chip model.
Thank you very much in advance.

That tool is opcom v5 with real Pic18F458
Its support firmware upgrade/downgrade
God luck
