Swirl Flap delete - R1c4ard06 - 05-03-2024

Hi,

BMW 435d 2015

A few months ago I got a swirl flap error, a local garage wanted to just replace the whole intake (flaps seem to move freely). The local dealer said they would upgrade the modules and then wanted to do a full diag instead before updating. This lead me to installing ISTA+ replacing the actuator updating the modules and adaption reset. Car has been ok for a couple of days then loss of power again. I haven't had time to check for errors yet. Removed the actuator and jammed the flap open for the interim.

I will remove the intake on Friday and inspect along with cleaning and blasting. I do have a delete kit but possibly only going to keep the car another year.
  • Not sure to try and get flaps working again
  • Delete and go stage 1
  • Delete and get a tune will this smooth out the low end
  • If delete what is the best way of coding off the actuator

Any idea's will be gratefully appreciated

Your post is a bit unclear.. Do you have orginal and only upadated firmware in ecu?? If yes post dtc from ecu.
For my sound like flaps problem, not flaps motor. Best way if you have kit, remove flaps and off it in ecu.
You writed about stage1, but previously you wonder to delete flaps becouse going keep car for year only????

No I replaced the actuator when I first got the issue, thank you I will inspect the intake and see if any new dtc since issue reoccurred and post.

Ok if I am going to remove intake and inspect and clean will use the delete kit.

What would be the best way of going about off it in ecu?

Stage1 was more if I am going to delete flaps and then get a tune to try and smooth out bottom end then might as well upgrade to stage 1 guessing can get away with new intercooler and air filter to go stage 1. In two minds as if decide not to keep car guessing it will be easier to sell as standard.
