@shittu191 is right,

We all know that knowledge is valuable, and to learn something you have to work very hard, and even wrong somewhere learen. But that does not mean that we have to be selfishidea, why bother someone if you are mastered it.

I agree that everyone should do their best to learn something, but hardworking people all members need help, because these people sometime will help you.

We are all apprentices, because we learn as we live.

Below are a few BSI facts.

* The engine ECU and the BSI have to be matched.
* Each ECU in a correctly functioning system has a 4 digit code programmed into it.
* Once this code is entered into the ECU it will not be possible to be read, deleted or modified.
* The second hand BSI can't be matched to the existing engine ECU even if you know both codes from both ECU's.
* In order to fit a new BSI you need to know the correct security code of the existing engine ECU so you can enter this code in the new BSI.
* If you get this wrong the new BSI will become unusable.
* If you don't know the correct code for the existing engine ECU then you need to replace the engine ECU and the BSI.
* They then will need to be configured and matched. If the code to the vehicle is not known you can make up a code in this case, but make sure you enter the same code in both ECU. It could be an expensive exercise to get this one wrong.

The odometer reading (distance travelled) is memorised in the BSI and the instrument panel. If you connect a second hand BSI with a reading higher then the one on the instrument, the distance on the instrument will increase to the higher BSI reading as soon as it is connected to the car.

So beware, a customer would not be happy if his distance suddenly jumped up several thousand kilometer's.

There is one way you can fit a second hand BSI. Use the engine ECU from the same donor car where the BSI came from.
It would then still be helpful if you can obtain the donor cars 4 digit security code for future programming, and also remember the issue with the distance. The distance reading won't be a problem if the donor car has lower distance then the recipient, the distance in the BSI will then simply go up to the correct distance.

Below is one experience of one of our colleagues:

Be careful with the replacement of BSI. If you want my candid opinion, take it to the dealer, it does not worth the efforts. It is not that the dealer performs magic but they have software of BSI & associated configuration stored on their database for each car sold out. So it is a piece of cake for them to copy and paste within few minute. You need to have access to the server to download it or somebody download it on a disk. This forum could help on that.
The Engine ECU and BSI control the immobiliser and electronics of the car. Be warned, car may refused to start or other devices go wonky not withstanding if your installation is successful or not. The angression may be transferred to ECU when starting the car and it may lock the ECU. In addition, you have to understand the following principle,
1. BSI can only be program once and match with the engine ECU with a separate code. NOt the key/transponder code. Remember, if the ECU did not get the correct code from BSI (3 times ?), it locks the ECU.Headbang another problem !!!
2. BSI configuration can be changed after installation with 03114 code for citroen models.
3. Confirm the model of your BSI and be sured it is the same with the original software of the car before you proceed. Even if you have to upgrade the software, you have to start with the original software first, configure, start car and later upgrade.
Way forward:
1. Ensure the car bonnet is up and have the battery and your computer on external charge. Check all doors are close tight, installation/configuration will fail if any equipment is turned on or door unlocks.
2. You have to go to replacement part on Lexia. Then install and configure.
N.B if you are able to save the configuration of the old BSI, then it will be better to use it on the new BSI after installation.
After that, do not start the car yet.
3. Learn /program your key again with the transponder code and hold the lock key button on ignition for 10s to activate the remote lock. Test after to ensure it works.
4. Very critical. Use your Lexia to diagnose the engine ECU and ensure they match and all keys synchronised.
Start the car. If you are lucky, away go and drive.
