I can approve that water temp is shown instead. I did it on E60 LCI (530d M57)
Also done on E90 LCI 330d or 335d N57 water temp .:: Thanks+Rep doesn´t kill anybody

I will check at home...I think I have some files on my laptop which could help you to compare. I don´t remember what I have done, it is some months ago.
Also you have to know that it takes some time until you can see the temperature rising. .:: Thanks+Rep doesn´t kill anybody

We wanted to have oil temp. but in case that there is no temp.sensor for oil you will get shown water temp. instead.
It will not jump to middle fast...so maybe drive around and compare with shown temp in ista or inpa. the pointer should be round the middle @~90 degree .:: Thanks+Rep doesn´t kill anybody
