2015 audi a3 fuel gauge fault (strange)
hi all,

i have a strange fault with a 2015 audi a3 2.0tdi fuel gauge.

9453074 - Fuel Level Sensor 1
          B103E 1B [00001001] - Resistance Too High

wiring has been checked and sender unit replaced.

we decided that it must be the cluster at fault, so we got a used replacement and programmed it to the car with odis,   fuel gauge all working fine now with no dtc's.

we locked the car and packed tools away, job done we thought.      when we started the car the fuel gauge error was back.   :headbang:

now this is the strange part,     i can start the car and disconnect the cluster while its still running and then reconnect the cluster and the fuel gauge is working and i can clear the fault code.     i can now turn the ignition off and on as many times as i like and the fuel gauge will continue to work with no dtc's,  but if i leave the cluster to shut down with ignition off the fuel gauge will not work when i turn back on.   at this point i need to start the car and disconnect and reconnect the cluster for fuel gauge to work again.

i have checked the coding of the cluster is correct and everything looks ok there.

i can not find any tpi regarding this issue either.

can anyone help with this one please.

thanks

RE: 2015 audi a3 fuel gauge fault (strange)
Have you checked quality of THE connector - how good does it fits, is there any oxidation? Measure resistance from both sides.

I remember having an A6 C6 with similar issue some months ago - but there was a TPI for this. Connector on the fuel pump inside tank gets loose from time and vibrations, so you had to cut it and solder level sensor directly.

RE: 2015 audi a3 fuel gauge fault (strange)
i think i have found the issue, it looks like the plug for the cluster may have been probed into the pin connector by the previous garage and slightly oversized the hole.

i have given the connectors a slight squeeze so they are now a snug fit and so far all is good. car has been left to sleep many times over the day and so far it has shown the correct fuel amount on the gauge every time.

Yeah, I don't really know why you first tried to replace all possible modules/units, and only then checked what was clearly stated in the error code..

"High Resistance" = bad electrical contact

But you do you.. At least the issue is fixed for now smile
