This works, but with some conditions:
1. The CIC in your car must be factory fitted. When it is retrofit there is no Ethernet connection between OBD and CIC.
2. CIC must get IP address from DHCP to be accessible by ftp. Easy way is to connect enet cable to router and restart the CIC. After CIC restart it will have it's own IP.

1- Yes, the ENET cable can be used with CIC in E series. (But it must be wired by the cic to the OBD port)


2- CIC, can have IP in DHCP or a static ip her, you just know.

It is working also in a retrofit situation like mine.

I did it in this way few months ago and it worked. you can grab swt file via FTP but you need an oldie usb to ethernet card. insert that usb card into usb port located in glovebox, login via ftp and retrieve the file.
