ISTA-P in virtual environment
Hello there,
I was trying to create a BMW Virtual System similar to the one EuroCSL is offering in his own thread http://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=15343 But in german language, as this suits me better. It went pretty good for BMW Standard Tools(NCSEXPERT, WinKFP, INPA... etc.) and ISTA-D. But when I tried to install ISTA-P I ran into a problem. The setup is aborting. Then I remembered from past experiences that ISTA-P will not install in a virtual environment. But somehow it must be possible from what I can see from EuroCSLs BMW Virtual System. So can please give me somebody a little hint how I can install ISTA-P in a VM? You would make me so glad. P.S.: Yes I'm aware that I should never program a Car from a VM. greetings |

RE: ISTA-P in virtual environment
If you already have a normal working setup, try using VMware Converter to automatically perform physical to virtual migration.
It is targeted at server administrators so we should be able to consider it a decent, reliable product. However our automotive applications often have their own interesting implementations which could possibly cause problems that VMware would not support, even if you have a fully paid license. Just to finish off, we all know ISTA-P is for reprogramming control modules, and even at dealerships, control modules occaisionally fail after programming. I would not want to introduce any extra complications (like virtualisation) just in case these cause problems. Just for example I used to run a virtualised PBX for my personal use. I found sometimes calls would intermittently stutter but luckily I could easily reproduce this problem without causing any damage so I could figure out how to resolve the issue by optimising VMware settings. Making a few test phone calls with occasional stutter is one thing, but I wouldn't dream about killing many control modules to let me optimise my VMware settings. |

RE: ISTA-P in virtual environment
EuroCSLs ISTA-P was probably installed elsewhere first and than just copied inside.

You're actually wrong there buddy, I built everything from scratch on my VM, from Windows 7 install to updates and all the prerequisites to run these softwares, nothing has been converted or migrated to the virtualization through host PC. every piece of software is fresh installs, unless you count drag and dropping the setups as migration then yeah. I can be lazy but I'm usually not Please, Press the Buttons , , and If this post helps, or useful information for you!

RE: ISTA-P in virtual environment
PhysicalMemorySize : 0 - looks like virtual environment is giving false information about RAM amount.

RE: ISTA-P in virtual environment
(17-06-2016, 07:23 AM)EuroCSL Wrote: Stupid tapatalk Thank you very much for that. The setup is now starting for BMW_ISPI_ISTA-P_SYS_3.58.0.500.msi. Will check later if the installation went fine. But a discovered a new problem. As BMW_ISPI_ISTA-P_SYS_3.59.0.600.exe was released recently they changed from msi to exe setup. And when I start BMW_ISPI_ISTA-P_SYS_3.59.0.600.exe the setup aborts complaining about that there are not at least 3GB of memory available. Sadly I can't open the exe file with the editor to disable the Hardwarecheck. But it's clear now that it is a problem with the memory detection inside the VM. I will look further into that. greetings |
