Ford Focus MK1 difficult start
Hello.
Ford Focus MK1 product year 2003, with 1.6 16v Zetec SE FYDD engine.
I have starting problem manifested as follows: after stop the engine and leave after some time (from several minutes to several hours) starts more difficult, meaning must long cranking around 5-10 seconds. If start right after stopping, or leave over night, starts easily.
I measured fuel pressure on rail: 3.5 bar with the vacuum hose connected to the pressure regulator, and 4 bars with the vacuum hose disconnected .
Thank you.

RE: Ford Focus MK1 difficult start
1) Do have any fault codes in Engine ECU...?

2) When did you last change the S/Plugs....?

3) It could be the Crank Shaft Sensor is getting old and losing crank signals when its hot remove the sensor and check if there are no any particles around the sensor and causing poor magnetic contacts....

4) Fuel Pump are very common on them......

1) I have no fault codes, just P1000
2) Last year was changed the spark plugs
3) I will check Crank Shaft Sensor
4) I will check the fuel pump, but the pressure seems to be good.
Thank you very much !

RE: Ford Focus MK1 difficult start
I,m not a mechanic but i had a look on google and this seems to be a very common problem, in saying that if anyone googles most things they may look like common faults.

I read allsorts of things to try from throttle body/spark plug gaps/coil pack/immobiliser/fuel pump issue as mentioned above and certain temperature sensors and many more..looks like a headache buddy and some ford dealers appear to be scratching their heads too with similar issues.

One easy thing you could try is a battery disconnect and hold the + and - together for a few secs and reconnect the battery, you would need your radio code of course but they are easy to retrieve.

Good luck
