So i have ISTA+ 4.18 running on my Windows 10 laptop and everything working correctly.  I just got a new computer for the garage and I am starting over again and wondering if i should go native vs standalone and the benefits of each.  Could someone explain the difference for each option, what is needed, and why one would go one way or the other?  Much appreciated!

1. The real native at the dealer talks directly to BMW servers for various things. For that you need to be a dealer (or have a good friend there so he provides you a VPN to the dealer).

2. For everyone else you can only use hacked native. For that you need a proper but hacked license which you can buy in marketplace of this forum. I don't see any benefit from that except you can use original software installation.

3. If you are in Europe and are VAT payer you can get AOS account. You pay for hourly/monthly/yearly use but get special software versions (which are one or two versions behind latest) which are kinda "online", but can do most of the things "real" native can do. This gives you access to official ETK4, ISTA+, ISTA-P, AIR and so on. In USA there is also some kind of paid access AFAIK.

4. For everyone else you have standalone.

Personally I have access to AOS, but only use it when really needed as its not exactly cheap for someone who is not a full time car shop. At other times I use standalone.

Thank you, based on that it seems for the average user at home standalone is the way to go.  With that I have another question as it is not 100% clear to me.  What is the process from upgrading 1 version of ISTA to the latest if you are standalone.  That seems to be the one thing that sets native apart as the upgrading is easier.  How does upgrading work with standalone?

Could you be more specific.  I feel like there are many components installed in the standalone process.  Delete which portions and extract which new portions?

2. extract new files and add regfix
3. update SQLiteDBs, BLP and SDP(if needed) with IstaLauncherConsole and original .istapackage files.
4. or you can everytime download all new complete SQLiteDBs, BLP and SDP files and replace old files.

Little difference on patching, not important.

Include an installer/extractor for Standalone files, that make all right changes in system/registry, only for Diagnose, without SDP. SDP can after install add manually, or with IstaLauncherConsole, if needed.

What would the steps be with yours? Install your standard tools exe then install ISTA?
