UUSP-S is a good overall programmer for the price.
Digiprog will work on this also in the eeprom menu and ST48, then calculate manually.

If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons!

RE: What do you use for Nissan Quest 04-06 cluster programming (Motorola MC9S12)?
I'm playing with Digiprog now, for MC9S it is advising to use 51/48 plug. I have 2 separate plugs 51 and 48. Which one should I use? Are they the same? If yes, what is the purpose to double those plugs.
And another question - what are the points inside the cluster to connect the wires to?

ST48 is 5V
ST51 is 12V

You will probably have to rewire your cables so they are the right colors.

For connection points post a clear picture of the back of the circuit board. For that cluster I would use ST48, most Nissan work OK at 5V.

It looks like it's easier to use pogo pins

If I had to hazard a guess it may be this....

Just verify the ground.

You are right. Ground is on the right spot.

Finally got some time to play with Digiprog.
Labeled the wires according to the file above and soldered.
When I choose 9S12 eeprom it reads all FFs. When I choose 9S12X - it reads the EEPROM (don't know if it reads correctly).
I do not change anything and click Verify- it shows the error starting from the first line.
If I change anything and write the EEPROM - after the writing I read it again - old information reads, which means nothing was written.
Any tricks with Digiprog I needs to know about? smile

Just verify the ground.

Got Orange 5 programmer today. Soldered wires as per the picture. Choose proper chip type and clicked "read". Nothing. Like programmer doesn't see anything. Checked all the connections, and all but 1, which is the middle contact in the bottom row of contacts (RESET) doesn't go to the chip. Technically Reset wire should go to the pin 40 of the chip. Doesn't go. I did try to solder the wire directly to the chip, but when I read it shows the error "Reset is in the wrong state" (or something very similar). I will try to remove the chip from the cluster and solder it to the adapter board which came with the programmer to see if it makes the difference, unless someone knows the trick how to do it in-circuit and why "reset" contact is not connected to the Pin40 of the processor.

So if I move the wire from the contact pad right to the processors 40pin this is what I get

Another update. It read / wrote with desoldering the processor just fine. But it's a pain.
In the event of in-circuit- may be any pins should be lifted from the board?
