It think that this is BS produced by ICOM sellers, who want to sell A2 units for people who already have the A1. I have had A1 for over a year now, I have flashed
numerous cars from E36 to F30 with it, and I have had zero issues. A1 Heat sink is bigger and has more grooves (surface area) than A2 heat sink, and there still is the fan that is not present on A2. I bought this ICOM from Yoho Technology, and I can recommend it for others too.
over the purchase must be handled directly to them in the company? or have their goods on ebay?

Should stabilize the temperature now while programming.

Hi, i was wondering if by any chance you could find out measurements/dimensions for your heat sink as ive bough an A2 without one and would like to get one manufactured. thank you

I made temp measurement of both chips today with a laser temp meter, without a cooling pad and any heatsink. (This is the most delivered condition of the clones, ok some of them are equipped with a pad.)

Before I checked the conditions I informed me in the Internet about the datasheet of both chips.

First:
KSZ8893MQL, this chip is a integrated layer 2 managed switch.
I dont want explain more things at the moment, but inside the datasheet I found the max temp. condition. As you could read it is the MQL type, the grade is commercial max Operation temp. is 70°C.

In my szenario I powered the ICOM A2 for only 15 minutes on, no coding no diag, idle mode. Temp. on the MICREL chip about 55°C.

Second:
The MPC5200VR400B (CPU) has the same grade (commercial) as the MICREL max operation temp. 70°C. Laser temp after 15 minutes in idle mode about 63°C.

My conclusion is very easy both chips have to be cooled, the heatsink should also touch the housing for a better heat dissipation, this is very important.

ICOM´s without any heatsink are a bomb...

I will provide some pictures if I have more time, may a small CAD file for a heatsink I made today. (I have to wait for some new screwls, so no mounting is possible at the moment.)

I never told that they are all bombs, but go to BMW and open one, you will find a heatsink.

Think about it if the head is working and not in idle mode and the ambient temperature is may be 10°C (I had about 24°C in my office) higher how much degrees we have inside the controller?

If you are a little bit familar with PBC design take a look at the mainboard of the ICOMA2. There are some LED´s mounted on the backside of the PCB. They never will show something in the A2, because the PCB was designed for the A1 housing.

If the heatsink is mounted the temps are inside the specs of the datasheet and nothing will happen.

Thats all, nothing more, but without the temps are out of the specs.

I will provide pictures of the temps the datasheet for both chips can be found everywehere. Take a look at the typical operating temps.

I wont blow up a 80TEuro car because the head is hanging up while coding.

RE: ICOM A2 Quality (PCB PICTURES!)
Hi I'm new here and just bought an ICOM A2. This particular thread intrigued me and here is what I came up with. I bought a 25x25mm 12VDC fan and fitted it on the side. I drilled a few holes on the opposite side to act as a vent. I am just waiting on a pigtail to solder on the fan leads. Bought a 1A 12VDC power supply and will power the fan with this external power source. Less than 20.00 for everything and should be better than nothing.

RE: ICOM A2 Quality (PCB PICTURES!)
Thinking about buying A2 form aliexpress. There are two options- cheaper (240€) and more expensive (400€). Is it worth try to pay more for same tool? Seller climes that expensive one has better quality of components and more stable? Can I trust him?
