Not just 95020, S95P02. Ran across this years ago when first starting, cheap programmer would get write error trying to write 2003 up GM chips as 95020. My solution was the same as yours back then, use an Atmel 212 from a different cluster,write the file, swap the chip and all was well.
Cheap digiprog clone writes these chips just fine, but you have to use S95P02 on the eeprom menu, it's there and I use it all the time. If you still have the original chip or run into this again, try it. If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons!

I do. That's good to know. I appreciate all the help and from now on I'll just look in the first couple lines for bytes in set of three
