RE: Windows XP VMware with BMW Standard Tools 2.12 and SP-daten v56
@Inspi, You are missing the entire point of the thread. The question is not if VMware is a good or bad for running ST but the point is that this VMware image has the complete set of working tools updated with the latest data files for E90. You may not need it but there are people who are interested in it and find it beneficial.
On the other hand, VMware is great because it can be deployed and moved easily. It does not require deinstallation of antivirus or firewall, can be run on 64-bit, 32-bit, home or pro version of Windows. But the biggest benefit of it for me is that it is sort of like an another computer that is dedicated just for playing with my car. It can be copied on a thumb drive and used only when needed. The connection with one's car will not be less stable or slower using VMware than using Windows installed regularly on a laptop. That is only driven by the cable, OBD and USB ports. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that. However, commenting before reading what the thread is about or stating your opinion about something that you are not familiar with is not beneficial to anyone. |

RE: Windows XP VMware with BMW Standard Tools 2.12 and SP-daten v56
@ludikure
Hi, Thanks for the VM. I started it and connected my K+DCAN interface and I have a question. In OBD.INI, the port is Com1. However, when the VM detects the cable, it assigns automatically Com4 because Com1 is already in use. Any ideas if this is ok? Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks. Edit : Since my USB port is different than yours, I had to uninstall COM1 to make it available. I had to add a new system variable in the VM, DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES = 1 . After this, I opened Device Manager-> View -> Show Hidden Devices-> Ports (COM&LPT)->COM1-> Right click and Uninstall. I assigned my K+DCAN interface to COM1, since it's available, and this would be it. I'll try tomorrow to connect to my E60 and give some feedback if it works. |

@ludikure
Could you provide a guide on how to update the SP Daten for people who already have the Standard Tools installed ? |

I am not sure if I fully understand the problem, but why didn't you just unplug the device that was previously using COM1?

I had to install early versions of INPA and EDIABAS, gradually update them with newer versions, and than on the top of that install Standard Tools. Once that was done, I updated daten files. There's a good tutorial on another site that I mostly followed. I will send you a PM for that. (17-12-2015, 01:18 AM)ac427 Wrote: @ludikure |
