RE: DiagBox 8.18 / 7.82
The easiest way to find out what is installed and what version is:
Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs.
You will find a list of everything installed with versions numbers.

Ensure that .NET Framework 3.5 is installed (later versions will NOT do) and run DiagBox as Administrator uncheck (Protect my computer and data....), for those who are running later Windows like 10, XP SP3 compatibility is also required.

If you wish to clean all, as manocao suggests,
Use the DBCleaner 101 (as Administrator) to clean both files and registry.
Then check if C:\APP and C:\AWRoot have been removed. If not, Kill the firebird or any other DiagBox service and remove them. Use DBCleaner again to clean files and registry (I always do it twice, just in case).
Reboot and reinstall.

RE: DiagBox 8.18 / 7.82
Your setup seems fine. Btw, you don't need to install the latest releases for things to work, DiagBox requires specific releases (DiagBox 7.xx uses Java 6 VC++ 2005 and 8.xx uses Java 7 VC++ 2008 both come with the package). You could try removing Java 8.

Try this:
Run Administrator CMD,
Execute "C:\Windows\System32>SFC /SCANNOW
If you have errors, repair them or if you have no other software installed on that computer, you could try formatting and reinstalling all, including Windows XP 32 bit.

The problem here is that when you have corruption errors, you don't know if it is a bad Memory, Hard Dis, Virus, Data failure at the time of writing copied data already corrupt or external effects like strong spike etc... and you don't know how much is damaged. Hence, I prefer a clean re-install of all.

RE: DiagBox 8.18 / 7.82
Not over keen on formatting and starting again as have quite a lot of stuff on that laptop... opcom, diagbox, vagcom, Volvo fcr, fiat fault code reader ( whatever its called) 3 different ford fault code readers, bmw and loads of random genral fault code readers,

sfc was ran about a month ago and no errors

i'll have another attempt at reinstall from 7.01/7.02 and see how it goes, if I cant get it to go i'll go back to scarys last updates until someone figures out how to modify diagbox 8

cheers for ur help tho simple

Ok reinstalled it all and it was all working fine and thought id give these updates another go as I'm not overly desperate for diagbox at minute got up to 7.62 and it loaded up fine and was working fine but then I did the .62 to .66 update and got same error as I had before, seems to be that update I'm having issues with

the full text of the error is

an error has occurred
restart the diagnostic tool

if this problem persists, please contact technical assistance

RE: DiagBox 8.18 / 7.82
Any hints from the photos (the effect of starting DiagBox as Administrator with the data protection enabled/disabled)?? Can you see the red circle in the "Run As" dialogue box?? Do you have it unchecked??.

If it solves your problem, confirm and close issue for other users to learn.

RE: DiagBox 8.18 / 7.82
That box is already unticked I checked that first , that first pic is the error I'm getting tho, I did try to put a pic on here but it was saying my pic was to big.... one of my mates need me to install diagbox on his laptop so I may have a go on his and see if it is something to do with my laptop cause I have noticed that a few of my icons like battery and sound icons have disappeared ( dunno quite when they went missing but only just noticed)..... and they are meant to be there as the options are all ticked, so it could be something to do my laptop,

I did have this with one of scarys updates ( cant remember which) and I reset the laptop 5 or 6 times and then it worked but this one seems to stay the same

Ok so quick update installed 7.01/7.02 on mine and my mates laptops tried this several times all the scary updates work up to 7.65 and work fine. then tried to do these updates again and as soon as I do the update titleded 7.62 to 7.66 it comes up with the screen above , uninstalled it and installed 7.01/.02 again worked fine did the maltrox updates worked up to 7.62 worked on 7.62 then as soon as I did the update 7.62 to 7.66 and it came up with the error again

the admin bit is already done, the only other thing I can think of is installing 8 as in your other post and trying it that way

RE: DiagBox 8.18 / 7.82
Hi lurchy666,
I have seen a number of people complaining about the same issue, I am not sure if it is a mistake in the process or the wrong BIOS setting or installing the wrong software version or corruption in the downloaded package.

It looks like different people have different issues. I can only point to this document, please follow it religiously:
http://cartechnology.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=12288

I can also add that if you upgrade to v8.01, you would be starting from and equal point to v7.65. It may be worth a try.. I have compiled the needed filed in one package and I will attache it later to the DiagBox v8 upgrade process..
