I want to share an unusual problem with you guys, maybe we can find a solution together.

I got a call from a friend trying to replace a CCC unit in a 09\2004 E63 630i.
New unit from dealer. Using ISTA\P (original dealer) tried to start a session to code the new CCC unit.

The session failed because the SGM\ZGM (not KGM) wasnt responding and therefore no units could be programmed.

A new SGM was brought in, but same problem in ISTA\P. New and old SGM is working fine in ISTA\D and can be coded with NCS Expert.

It is ONLY in ISTA\P the SGM is not responding, both on the OEM Dealer setup and my standalone setup. Both running 3.57.4.

The original conclusion was faulty module, but seeing as the new one is not responding as well, they thought maybe cable break, but the modules are working great in ISTA\D and there areno errors on the short test.

Any ides?

After trying a few other solutions i discovered that the light module had been replaced with a unit from a E65 745i. But the part numbers should be interchangeable. Correct me if im wrong. The unit was anyway flashed with correct software, correct vin, and coded. also FA was written to the LM from CAS and checked against dealer records.

Sorry not the solution you want to hear, but i would flash ccc with winkfp , if you want support with that let me know .im Not underestimating your knowledge and expertise but CCC is a bit pain to flash with winkfp .

Really? Why would you flash the CCC? I did not think that would matter since the gateway module thats not responding in ISTA\P is the vehicle gateway, not the MOST gateway?

In the control unit tree in ISTA\P, all the units that show up after the special measures plan for reanimating the SGM GW is SGM, CON, and CID. Nothing else.

I can handle the flashing of CCC with WinKFP no problem, but thanks anyway!

Maybe im just not getting the full picture here, but if you want to explain your train of thought a little bit that would be appreciated as this car is a huge PITA.

I assume you are familiar with the OBD setup in the early E6x where all vehicle communication is handled through the SGM GW, i just dont think this makes any sense why it would work flawlessly in ISTA\D, and not P.

I've done hundreds of E6x flashing with ista p . Never faced such issue , but haven't flashed any E6x with either ICOM 2 onwards or with ista P v54 onwards. Those E6x cars became rar in the country where i live that's why i didn't try flashing with new versions like V56.xx or V57.xx .

No, the reason I wanted to flash with ISTA P was that this is the only tool available at the dealer After ISTA P failed i used NCS Expert and coded the new CCC and SGM and there are no more errors regarding system time and the CCC now has audio coming out of the Top Hifi AMP.

So the car is working, its just not responding in the ISTA P session, no matter what. So there isnt really a problem here, but im trying to figure out what was wrong, since ISTA P cant start a session. Not on my setup or the dealer server

Let me know if there is a need for more clarification here. This problem has stumped me and a few service techs at the dealer.

Odd one try disconnecting lamp module and se what results you get it may be taking down bus ! if ok then delete from programming via expert mode ! the dsc also sometime has same effect !

Is you werk I-level correct? Ran into this before and ISTA/P worked once it was written to the correct one.

The factory "i-level" for this car read as 4.21. After dealer tried to update car first but failed, the new i-level was 15-11-00.


Aaaaaaah, maybe it reads the I-level from the LM from the E65 as 4.21?????
