XZBMW  [SOLVED] E91 N43 Engine malfunction - reduced power after ISTA-P 3.59.2.001 flashing
Today I flashed my 2010 E91 N43 with ISTA-P 3.58.003. I-level is on E89X-16-03-502, so that's correct. But now there's a persistent error in DME: 2FD3 - Brake vacuum sensor, signal. I cannot erase this fault (not even with ISTA-D) and when driving I get the "Engine malfunction - reduced power" message in Check Control.

I searched on the internet and it seems only cars with Auto Start/Stop have a brake vacuum sensor! And my car doesn't have Auto Start/Stop, so I'm confused.

I hope someone can shine a light on this and help me fix this problem. Any input is hugely appreciated.

Thanks,

Carlo

Hi ,

This sounds like the coding of your DME isn't correct , do you happen to know how to V.O coding by NCSXpert ? if you did than I would suggest that you coding the DME first to see if it make any difference ( with the correct V.O ) .

Good Luck

RE: E91 N43 Engine malfunction - reduced power after ISTA-P 3.58.3.003 flashing
Thanks guys,

I've never worked with NCSexpert, so I'll have to get into that. With ISTA-P (older version), I can"t go back to older firmware?

I don't understand about the VO though, because Auto Start/stop is 1CC and my car doesn't have this code in VO-list.

Yes this is a software issue according to the BMW bulletin 62720046-02
I will bi solved with 16-07-503 (ISTA/P 3.59.2)
should be available middle-end of july.

do you have WINKFP and some older SP Daten that you can flash back a bit as the "fix" isn't yet available?

OK,

That would explain a lot. Where did you read that bulletin info? Do you have a link for me?

Also, I've never used Winkfp before. But should I use Winkfp or NCSexpert? Or can it be done by either?

I only have it in german from bmw directlysmile

NCS is only for coding,
you need to flash it (downgrade) to a older software or wait for the new release.

you can flash with WINKFP and some older SP-Daten.
or try to downgrade with an older ISTA/P setup. but I newer tried this yet

RE: E91 N43 Engine malfunction - reduced power after ISTA-P 3.58.3.003 flashing
OK thanks,

I found same kind of info in ISTA-P 3.58.2 release notes. Should have read this before flashing! But strangely I used 3.58.3 and the problem isn't mentioned anymore in the 3.58.3 release notes...

Well, I'll have to look into WinKfp then, thanks again.

XZBMW  RE: E91 N43 Engine malfunction - reduced power after ISTA-P 3.58.3.003 flashing
So, I tried to flash the DME with WinKfp and 57.2 daten (older version). I selected the ZB-number 7648546 which was the previous version according to ISTA-P 3.58.3 measures report. This number was found in the ecu list, it belonged to MSD812. On proceeding with 'Program' WinKfp didn't accept and gave errors because the HW-number (hardware number) wasn't recognized. I looked in the MSD812.dat file and all HW-numbers were in the 76.. range. HW-number of my DME ecu is 8672567. So much higher.

This makes me believe the DME HW-number has been changed during previous ISTA-P flashes. And so it's not possible to 'downgrade' the DME with WinKfp, is that the case?

RE: E91 N43 Engine malfunction - reduced power after ISTA-P 3.58.3.003 flashing
If your car has an automatic gearbox, and you program your car with ISTA-D 3.58.1 or higher. Then there is a vacuum sensor must be mounted. See repair instructions REP-REP RAE9011-1166X01 in ISTA-D.

This is only valid for models E8X and E6x with motor code N43 with an automatic gearbox

BMW has updated the software for these cars, off of ISTA P3.58.1 there is a check on brake vaccuum built building.
