E60 OBD port fried - car goes crazy - help
'09 E60 530D

I really need some expert advice on this! Where to start searching?

Connected my ICOM-A clone, which exhausted a small puff of smoke and went dead. There is no 12V on the OBD port now.

Got a lot of errors, including "Central Electronics Failure", ABS, Airbag and Gearbox.
Engine starts, but active lumbar support activates randomly when pressing brakes(!), wipers go crazy, unable to lock car and more. Can hear extensive relay clicking under glove compartment.

Car can be driven. Faults then mostly go out (!) but then randomly re-appears.
Seems to me some unit is firing an extensive number of bus messages?
Which units are directly connected to the OBD port?
Seems like a very difficult fault-searching task :-/

All help is highly appreciated!

Sound like a 2 things
Power short (check for loose change in cigarette lighter)(engine power cable)(battery power cable)(loose ground)(shorted battery)
FRM Module
start unplugging EVERYTHING

If any of my posts or current one helps then don't forget to press thanks and add a reputation thankyou

Anyone know which fuse is for the OBD-connector on the E60?

Further diagnosis shows that car is normal when driving...
That might indicate a slight short that makes the bus work by the higher voltage when alternator is running?
As soon as I stop the engine, all sorts of magic starts happening.

I'll start by checking the cables on the OBD connector, then disconnecting main units.

Will I be able to engage "ignition" with the DDE disconnected?

Fuse F29 and CAN wires go straight to KGM.

What about the modules in the trunk, (under the spare wheel)
sometimes water intrudes and causes many funny faults on the Bus system

I've had that one as well, and agree, it resembles that one perfectly - but this time it was all dry.

Guess what guys? It was all due to blown F29 fuse!
Can still not believe why the car would go haywire because of a single blown fuse?!
Interesting that it then will induce crazy amounts of faulty bus messages...
Thanks for all suggestions! smile

If anyone knows why an unpowered KGM would cause all of these errors, I'm curious to know smile
I mean, I could still control several of the units going "crazy", and the DDE and gear box isn't even connected via KGM, as far as I know.
Seems to me that either some unit generated random/faulty can bus messages, or that the can bus in some way became "unstable" without a powered KGM.
