If your HU has a different VIN from the one of the car and you don't have a CAN filter in place then your unit will become locked as I understand it.
With a CAN filter in place, you can reflash the HU with a different VIN and use an FSC set to match. The remaining issue that may bite you is if the FSC dates are prior to the ones already loaded, then you will need to clear the existing FSC set first. On the bench you should be OK. I don't have any direct experience with the "gracenote update method" but I would image it will work without needing to clear the existing FSC set.

I think i will clear the fsc set. Is that the way i clear fsc with tool32: Configure tool32 for enet cable. - Opend tool32 and load nbt.prg - find job named like this: steuern_delete_persistency_intel_plus_swt - write SWT in the argument box - double click on job - now select gps_position_reapir with argument 2 and nbt will virginized and rebooted (06-12-2016, 17:14 PM)pshoey Wrote: On the bench you should be OK. I guess I read here that EVO can't be operated on bench like NBT , just too lazy to look for that thread

When your unit is still ID4 GOOD, flash it to 3.56.5 and remove FSC downgrade is not a problem when your unit is ID4, after that flash it to ID5-ID6 and import FSC on VIN.
IF already flash to ID 5 downgrade to 3.57 and you are able to remove FSC without problems, BUT never can downgrade to ID4 again when flashed to ID5. Its possible to downgrade but not with esys
