KVauxhall  Chuckle at my expense!
Hi all,
i may well get laughed at but, can flash a file to an ecu that has matching hardware numbers but different software numbers?

both cars have the same engine, same age etc

feel free to laugh if its a stupid question but ive always been a slave tuner so never needed to know.

cheers

matt

I think the answer is maybe, but you have to be careful. File sizes need to match etc otherwise ecu damage can occur, if car dont run right or dont start then you can flash original back.

Why are you thinking about flashing different software numbers Matt ?

RE: Chuckle at my expense!
Both me and my business partner run vectra c 1.9 cdti's
Both are dpf models! Mine however was tuned last year for dpf off egr off and a nice power gain!
My business partners has just started having dpf problems so we are keen to remove it.

Untill recently a done all my mapping using a slave tool, and have made the decision to try and learn 4 myself, I own and run an engine reconditioning firm specialising in building oval track engines! So I understand how engines work and understand diagnostics but only no a small amount about mapping.

I have bought a mpps flashing tool but the vectra don't have a "read" option and im not quite confident enough to use a bdm tool yet. So was wondering if it's possible to take a copy of the current file on my car and flash it to the other car.

The both have matching hardware numbers but software numbers are different!

Having run the file on my car for almost 15 thousand miles I'm happy with it so if it will work I would be quite happy to run it on the other vectra, I just don't want to make a pigs ear of it!

Cheers matt

P.s. sorry for the essay

Essays are just fine for our readers here Matt wink2

Im guessing that you have a clone mpps tool ? If you have then I would change it to an eu clone of kess or fgtech if you want to start with a master. Reason is much more reliable than china stuff but a bit more expensive. Once you have read the ecus of both cars you can post them up here and members will help you yes

RE: Chuckle at my expense!
Depending on ecu kess or fgtech will not read correct part of the ecu via obd especially when removing egr ,dpf
my advice would be id your workmates ecu look for bdm file have that modded to suit the car
btw if yours was flashed with slave tool mod file will be encrypted so you can't use another tool with that file only your slave tool

RE: Chuckle at my expense!
You will have to ID + read your business partners ECU, do same for your ECU

if ID files match then that is a great starting point smile

until this is done, no more can advise
