RE: SDconnect PCB & Firmware + Repair + SN Change
This is probably a novice question, but what is the SDFlash card used for on the SDConnects? I see slots in most models but have never seen a card inserted into them, or if they even have the pads on the board to connect to them.

RE: SDconnect PCB & Firmware + Repair + SN Change
My sdconnects does not have epcos chokes and tantal capacitors. If I buy these componenets then can I solder them on the board? is it possible? will be a better signal transferring?
An E.E. and pcb designer says that : ".5NU relays and EPCOS S513N chokes. I’ve seen plenty of PCBs where they remove the chokes and stub them out with 0 ohm resistors. That is a high crime in terms of signal integrity. You see a lot of “full chips” comments where these are present, although that is a bit of a misnomer. It should read as “common mode filters present”. On this PCB, you’ll also notice the use of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) near the switching supplies. A lot of clones seem to use electrolytic capacitors in place of the bigger MLCCs because of the cost. MLCCs are preferred for switchers because of their low ESR. I really cannot comprehend why the clone makers skimp on these. Even in the US, in reel (e.g. 4K pcs) qty, a 47uF MLCC is about $0.20/ea. That means the difference of probably about $0.50 for the whole PCB. The other advantage of MLCCs is that they more or less last forever, whereas electrolytic caps will eventually dry out and fail (and who knows how old the ones you’re getting are and what the quality is to begin with)." |

RE: SDconnect PCB & Firmware + Repair + SN Change
Would anyone happen to know what would cause a less than 6-month old SDConnect to diagnose W221s and a few other vehicles, however when diagnosing a W203 it cannot locate the modules and connect to the EZS like it can the CGW on other models? Also, it can't connect to some W211s. A self test shows no faults.
In addition, would someone mind explaining what the software/firmware files that are updated occasionally do specifically (as in what each one's responsibility is in the operation of the SDConnect?). Although I don't have one in front of me, for example, the CSD 2.2 and 2.3, I think the Caesar one is pretty obvious, and the *pic* named file - what does that one do? Can one run the first software update the clears the unit and leave it up to Xentry/DAS to install what it requires? On the SDConnects that do connect to W203s, you can hear the relays clicking away during diagnosis, but on the one in question that will not connect, DAS does not time out, nor do you hear any relay activity. Thanks! |
