RE: Good or Bad Vas5054A
yes for bluetooth diagnostic without usb wired 5054a.....but not only over bt interface mades fw upgrades and downgrades.
even a fake amb2300 allow the vas5054a to upgrade and downgrade firmware....not the latest 1.20.42 because maybe inverted tja 1054at, fake oki,au5680a .....and malaysian flash .....
but a patched (velospeed) fw 1.20.42 runs fine ....

RE: Good or Bad Vas5054A
Correct.

Often though, a VAS5054a with genuine AMB2300 bluetooth is a bit higher quality.
Basically you need to make sure you have at least high and low speed canbus chips on board and oriented correctly.

The reason is because VAG has introduced serial number checking. So all clones which use that known serial are locked or not allowed, starting from the introduction of fw 1.20.42, even if clone has original amb2300 and the board is reworked with original parts. What is important here is the serial number. However if they start making new clones with different serials those serials will also be locked. That will be a mess up because people with original VAS5054a will not be able to use them if there serial is stolen.

I suggest that any modifications should be done software also in the future.

Well since there is a software solution I am not puzzled to where or how many times it exists. Be happy and enjoy your vas5054a but really the logical or wise approach would be to buy a second hand original vas5054a, what Fantimel said. Less surprises less risk less hassle more reliable.

Hello dear friends Cartechnology

I thank you everyone for your contributions (Fantomel, Apoelistas...) which facilitates the job of amateurs like me.

So my question is about capacitor, the ones on the card i have are black. According to my research :

11x marked 106C = 10uf 16V
1x marked 106E = 10uf 25V
1x 107E = 100uf 25V
(I do not know the exact sizes of sorry capacitors).

On good cards in general capacitors are yellow, should i replace them for better operation? Thanks in advance for your response.

Caps are caps, especially those with Tantalum. You only need to check the true value if it corresponds to the marked one. In relation to the voltage to wich it resists, the rule is applied that the mischief is at least double the maximum working voltage.
On the other hand, in order to measure the value of the capacitots, most of them must be removed from the motherboard, otherwise the measured value will not correspond to the actual value.
The value marked on your capacitors is good; and you don't need to change them just because they are black.
