XZBMW  X5 3.0sd DPF problem / need DPF guru
Hello everybody,
Been 6 months that I've this problem and it is still not solved... Please take a look at my analyse, any help appriciate !

So X5 2008 3.0Sd with 190000km, 6 months ago DPF light.
Regarding the km I've changed the DPF. I've changed also :
- Exhaust pressure sensor
- Two temp sensor on the DPF
- Water thermostat and EGR thermostat (and EGR clean)
- Say on the DDE using ISTA that there is new DPF

Everything as been well for about 1000km and now new DPF is clogged (limp mode / dpf light).
I've use DCC p2985 in spray directly on the pressure hose and after 20min / big smoke car is alive again.

What I've noticed !!
On ista / DDE / DPF the "time since last regen" has never been reset since the change...
AND when I have regeneration autorized (DDE green on ista tree) everything is going normaly : I have regen active for x seconds then not active then active and so on  with temp like 450-500°
BUT !! when the pressure increase (I think 1 spray wasn't enough) and the 480 error appears again (DDE orange in ista tree) the status change from regeneration autorized to regeneration asked in DDE (sorry for translation) and when I have this status, the regeneration state is never triggered to "active"
What is going wrong ? Normally when a forced regeneration is triggered it should be "active" to unclogged the DPF (and lower the pressure) ...

Additionnal informations :
No other error, heater main relay is new as well as heater plug, oil level ok / changed recently with breather also
All car has been updated in 2010 (i level seen on ista) / Swirl flap blanking ok
Pressure sensor test : Idle : 45mbar / @2000tr/min 117mbar / @4000tr/min 240mbar

I've read over thousand of lines of forum that there is other clues like mass air flow  or vaccum hoses ?

Please help... It's making me mad !!

back pressure is to high! You are need to make drive with aprox 80km/h (no more) check the engine temperature (need the 80 or more deg. if no change the booth thermostats) After engine temperature is OK drive 80km/h, reset the errors on DDE. Yous see the exhaust gas temperature start to raising. After ~15 sec DDE shows errors again (temperature drops), continuous the driving and error reset. If regeneration stay stable (exhaust gas temp ~600 deg) you need to drive 20 min. After temperature drops under 400 without errors in DDE process is complete. The process some times need 2 or more hours depend of DPF clogged...
P.S The normal back-pressure at IDLE is under 10...

@Inspi1981 : swirl flaps are the 6 flaps in the intake manifold that fails and drop oil / leak of pressure so they have to be blanked with aluminium plates.

@sys9291 : thanks for your reply so for you it will take time to be fine ? Never seen more than 510 degree... will try another dcc spray inside ?

What is the coolant temp while driving? If it's below 75c DPF won't regen. Is it an automatic? In automatic there is an heat exchanger that can cause the coolant temp to be too low.

Temp is around 93 deg. And yes auto gearbox, I’ve seen that there is a thermostat here too I will check that (I don’t know how)

I've seen very cheap DPFs here for 300euro or so. Those clog very easily. Especially in combination with some cheaper diesel fuel sorts which have less cleaning additives and short driving distances. And there is not much you can do except replacing them again or driving long distances.

When DDE registers overpressure it enters special soot burnoff mode, but that is only performed on very long drives (In my experience 1h minimum and at speeds of at least 80km/h). All that is explained in ISTA. It will usually not exit that mode until backpressure is back to normal or DPF replacement is registered. No "normal" regeneration will take place until that. So you can try to clean your DPF with fluid or drive a long way.

Since this is a 3.0sd engine, the dpf problem becomes a big issue when you remove swirl flaps. Buy a new or restored intake manifold with working (not removed) flaps and you're good to go! I've countered this issue with two X5 3.0sd, both of them had flaps removed - both installed brand new intake manifolds and the dpf problem was solved.

Exactly, regeneration doesn't work without swirl flaps

Huskvarn did you install original or aftermarket dpf? Because aftermarket dpfs are piece of shit...
