RE: ICOM Wireless setup
I have a feeling there is an additional factor that is not totally clear:
I tried setting this up using dos commands, connectify and my public wifi. Each time I could see the virtual ap and connect from my mobile phone. However my ICOM would never connect. It connects fine to my home router so I know ICOM is not faulty. Also when trying to connect the ICOM to the virtual AP, I could see the WiFi LED would change from blinking continually, to slower blinking, but it would never connect. I tried even using tftpd32 to provide DHCP for the virtual AP in case this was a problem, but I could not see the ICOM at all in wireshark traces. I suspect this must be an incompatibility with my wifi card but the strange thing is it works perfectly if I try and connect my mobile phone to the virtual ap. |

RE: ICOM Wireless setup
It could be your laptop creates AP in 5GHz band and ICOM's card supports only 2.4GHz. Newest connectify version indicates a warning if virtual wifi is being operated in 5GHz band. Can your mobile indicate which band its connected to?

RE: ICOM Wireless setup
Good thinking, but I checked my mobile connected to the virtual AP on 2.4
The only idea I had remaining which I couldn't find a way to test was to totally disable security for the virtual AP, but I couldn't find any way to do this. |

When doing that it has a strange symptom: ICOM would never connect on first start of virtual AP, I always had to shut AP down and start again. Then it would connect. My mobile phone had no trouble connecting to it after the first start though. With Connectify I don't have such problem. Another thing laptops don't have good Wifi antennas nor does ICOM, so for me it works only within ~3m radius, and if laptop is outside car, I have to put ICOM above instrument cluster near the front window, else the signal is too weak and it does not connect. RE: ICOM Wireless setup
I have used ICOM over wifi, and can see it in itoolradar. Through my home router, (and even through my phone via hotspot.. that was pretty cool), but I cannot get ISTA to see it, because no isis server.
One way is to reserve it and use via ediabas VCI settings... but you have to always reserve, and be mindful of IP addresses. Still no way to get ISTA to see it directly on network? |
