Need instructions to replace ECM
Hello at all,
a friend want to replace the ECM with a new one and ask me to do it because I have GTis and MDI. But I never perform any SPS programming, so I need some guidance. To start with some questions: - do I need a security code? - Do I have to read the existing ECM before install the new one? - If programming is failing, can I reinstall the old ECM (it´s still working with some failure)? The car is a Chevrolet HHR SS, ECM Bosch ME9.1, LNF Engine (same setup as the Opel GT 2.0 Turbo Z20NHH) Thanks in advance, Yves. |

After reprogramming ECU you have do a theft relearn which will take 12 min.One the first screen in the middle you'll have 2 choices: Reprogram ECU & Replace and Program ECU - use the second one. When you get to point when SPS will read VIN # - make sure you change it to right one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUMJFwMuAkE |

Now I have to do: 1. Install new blank Engine Control Module in vehicle 2. SPS -> Replace and program ECU -> compare VIN -> following instructions 3. after programming -> Theft deterrent relearn Please confirm: 4. don´t need any security code? (car is imported from the US) 5. SPS programming works with GTis v32b and High Qual. MDI clone? 6. Do You know if 2008 Chevrolet HHR SS VIN is covered by GTis v32b? Sorry, but I want to be sure and thanks for Your patience. Greetings, Yves. |

RE: Need instructions to replace ECM
You will need to manually enter the VIN if it's a new ECM. SPS reads the VIN from ECM only and if it's new it won't contain one. If ECM is used, don't read VIN and manually enter it. Then program ECM and manually entered VIN will be the new ECM VIN.
