Hello, In Mercedes W204 220 CDI (2009)  front SAM  I think is faulty. The part numbers A204 545 45 01 . I have used SAM from another W204 but newer (2012) part A212 900 59 12.  After the swap I cannot start the car. Ignition ON is OK but not starting the starter motor. Is this normal ? Because I thought that starting has nothing to do with the SAM. Also lights are ON all the time ignoring the light switch selector. I think the new SAM needs re-coding for my car. Can some recommend reliable service in that matter? I am based in the UK. Thank you

You putted sam from lift. You need rewiring. Then code to your car option. Donr forget sam is also zgw. I can provide repair remotly . You need have vediamo also

What made you think your original SAMF is faulty ?


You have swapped your preFL SAMF with FL SAMF, do you know that ?
change preFL to FL SAM, need to do tons of coding !
And also need rewire the CAN, FL SAM using different CAN signal.
If just swap the hardware, it won't work !
Do you know what you are doing ??

It is better use preFL SAM,
but you still need coding to match your car options.

Many thanks for your professional input. You are right. I was wrongly adviced to swap the SAM unit and then code it. I reinstalled old SAM and did proper diagnosis. Discovered some faluts in wiring and fixed it. There was nothing wrong with the original SAM. Thanks again

That's great you fixed it.
SAM is one of the not easy fail unit.
