bmw Z4 electrical help
2010 Z4 35i

Car has a bunch of lights on dash, including airbag, even though airbag doesnt show fault in ista.
Wiper constantly on,

Replacement JBE didnt help, replacementSZL didnt help.
unplugged DSC yaw rate sensor also made no difference.

Unplugging dsc has no effect.

errors are:

c918 - no message (wiper operation) receiver jbe transmitter FRM/SZL/LWS/IHKA
cda1 Message (steering wheel angle) receiver DME transmitter DSC
cd95 Message (operation, cruise control) faulty, receiver dme transmitter DSC/SZL/LWS/ACC
cf1b - Message (steering angle) error from DSC, receiver DKG/EGS, transmitter DSC/DME
6E58 - DSC - F-CAN DSC Sensor
d515, e0d9 and e594 all steering angle message errors from DSC.

Unplugging DSC makes no difference, wipers still on, errors still on. communication in ista is okay though, module is green,

Any ideas?
all supply is there, going to check grounds tomorrow. SZL tried replacing makes no difference. osciloscope on both pcan and kcanH kcanL is completely scrambled at jbe.

Hi,

Dsc units are common to fail on these, can cause these symptoms

Thanks tonemoz, but with dsc unplugged i think windscreen wipers should return to normal, i will check the canbus signals on pcan and ptcan tomorrow once dac disconnected to see if its possibly it.

here is a clue. When DSC is being programed, the wipers will wipe continuously on some models.

yes because szl is a slave module of dsc and this means that szl signals are passing trough ptcan by dsc to the others including jbe, no szl signals to jbe means no known wiper stalk position, and no known position cause this. I suggest to the op to check every ptcan line and every supply and ground line for each module involved in pt-can. If lines are ok, go on with oscilloscope and check the signal wave, if is not ok proceed with unplugging each pt-can ecu, one by one, since you will find the faulty one. By dtc i will suspect faulty dsc/szl/dsc sensors because egs and dme also involved in ptcan are showing dtc only for dsc master and slave modules. As info... if the car instead of e89 is eg. an e60, szl will be a master module and not a slave of dtc....

RE: bmw Z4 electrical help
Thanks guys, you sure pt can? it seems szl and DSC and on F_Can and they are the ones giving errors, or mainy DSC since like ANGEL said, szl is a slave module.

Ill play around and check all pins again to DSC and go from there.

I know everything is pointing to the DSC but dont want to fire the parts cannon, want to make sure thats whats wrong and i would suspect wipers to return to normal if DSC was unplugged.

Read again above, there's why this can not happen. A wrongly flashed dsc acts in the same way. Disconnecting dsc will not stop wipers.

Szl and dsc sensor are connected directly to dsc in f-can through jbe. This is the other line to check.

Loss of comms to Dsc will cause the wipers to operate continually as others stated. Have replaced a few Dsc's  on this model with this symptom.

RE: bmw Z4 electrical help
Thanks Guys,

Flashed DSC sucessfully, checked all grounds, and power wires to DSC, and F_Can and pt-can wires between dsc and jbe. all good. Comms are good since i could flash the module, but faults remain:

00D34D DSC: F-CAN passive
006570 Interface DSC

So it looks like DSC replacement either way. ill order one and will update.
