Different compression algorithms.
This one is the original installation file. The one in the other thread - already installed and archived back.

Think of them as an install vs. portable app.

If installing ISTA-P 3.72 on a fresh/updated Windows 10 base, WITHOUT ANY PRIOR ISTA+ or ISTA-P installations, what are the prerequisite(required) software* installations (and registry edits if any) for ISTA-P, before running the installer? (Are the requirements essentially the same as with ISTA+?)
* For example:
- Patched EDIABAS 7.3.0
- Java
- VCRedist x86 x64 ...
- vs90_piaredist
- .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8
-  Any necessary registry edits or other settings etc. ...

2. Does the installer itself include any such prerequisite(required) software (and any registry edits)? If so, what are they, and what must be installed(and edited) manually BEFORE running the installer(if any)?

It does not work without a loader. For me it works with ISTA P Loader V6.6L. Installation is simple, next-next and finish.

During first boot of ISTA-P I got a notification:

"Please download Java
This application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0"

After installing Java, rebooting and relaunching the Loader, ISTA-P opened up fine. Cool!

EDIABAS is installed by the installer in:
C:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\ISTA-P\BMW\Environment\EDIABAS
(Includes BIN folder with EDIABAS.INI, ifhsrv32.exe etc.)

Also in:
- C:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\ISTA-P\BMW\Services\templates\PolluxTemplate\EdiabasLogger.dll
- C:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\ISTA-P\Inventory\metadata\Ediabas\package.xml and package.xsd (2 files only)
- C:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\temp\IstapTempInstallFiles_72.0.300\metadata\Ediabas\package.xml and package.xsd (2 files only)

So this leaves just the following software in question (whether they need to be installed):
- VCRedist x86 x64 ???
- vs90_piaredist ???

It's usually a good practice to have every version of MS Visual C++ Redist (2005-2022, both x86 and x64) installed on every Win system for the best compatibility with any given software.
These runtimes do not take a lot of space and don't break anything in the system either.
I do not see any reason not to install them just in case.

Only if you're on outdated OS, like Win7 or Vista.. Win8.1 and newer have .NET framework already built in into the system (unless you've specifically tweaked the OS to have them removed).
