I have seen few threads on forums where people are struggling and doing this procedure in way too difficult ways, so decided to make a public tutorial how to do this in quite easy way.
 
In this tutorial i didn't cover how to do some procedures, like head unit flashing and map updates, please note that you will need that knowledge when doing HDD change in your unit.

as stated in this tutorial, almost the same procedure for NBT.
and as always, if you are not sure if you can do it, you should always take your car to the professionals.

1. Remove your faulty HDD from the Head Unit.
2. Install new HDD in Head Unit.
3. Enable SSH access.
4. Initialize new HDD.
5. Flash Head Unit.
6. Install map data.
7. Install gracenote.

as i am doing this for business, i use brand new Toshiba MK2060, the ones which came originally in head units, they are industrial grade, not that sensitive for temperature changes etc., don't want to risk business name by using some crap which will fail in a month, feel free to use anything you want, but you have to test and see by your self if it works and for how long it will work.

i am using samsung870 evo 500gb ssd and it is working fine for 1,5 year now
