How to use a cheap CH341a programmer to read 95160 95xxx series eeproms
Here is how to use a cheap CH341A programmer to read the 95160, 95xxx series eeproms
The first issue you will come accross using this programmer is there i no software supplied with it...please use software version 1.29 and not 1.13!...the I.C database of the 1.13 software version has not got the I.C we are wanting to read/write to! a quick search in google and you will find software version 1.29 Ther second issue once you have installed the drivers and have the programmer in english is that the 95160 I.C is not listed, dont despair as you can use the micro chip 25LC160 from the drop down list to read/write. The 3rd issue is the sketch is incorrect of the direction of the I.C in the programmer, I.C cut out(pins 1 and 8) must face the ZIF lever. Take note!! 4th issue is no documentation comes with this programmer, or at least mine didnt!...if you having problems reading the 95160 like i did with data all FF then do the following to resolve this problem if you have the same CH341A as the one i bought with pins on side of the ZIF socket, if you can see 3.3v and 5v pins side by side, if so this is the same one, and by default its preset to 3.3Volts...link out the 3.3V/ 5V link so the programmer is now 5Volts...see if it will now read correctly...if not then a simple modification should sort out the not reading problem, solder a 16Volt 1000Uf capacitor accross the usb input terminals to stabilise the USB 5V supply(make sure of correct polarity +/- when soldering!), this mod made the cheap CH341A read/write perfectly! TIP: always erase the I.C before writing or when you verify the IC errors will be shown! (Found out this by just writing files to the IC and not erasing it) Hopefully this helps those who like myself spent many hours trying to figure out how to read/write/programme the 95xxx series eeproms with a simple cheap programmer! |

Thanks, this worked for me, except I did not soldered the 1000uF capacitor, it reads and writes to the eeprom without any problems.
The module in question was Airbag module 1K0 909 605 N. |

FYI anyone that wants to convert to 5V u can just use a jumper the last 2 pins on the bottom row. no need for soldering wires. u're basically bypassing the 3v3 regulator in and out but seems to not cause any issues.
i also added a switch to select 3v3 or 5V for the ch341 VCC pin. |
