If you use k+dcan cable: check pin 7 and 8 on your connector. For E53, E46 and E83 they must be connected.

I forgot to mention that I've never used ISPI NEXT with anyother interface apart from an ICOM.
Also with ICOM use the 20pin connector.

How mate???? Yet these cars all have ODB II 16 pin connector???????? E46, E53, E83 all have ODB II.

With E36 which has 20 pin connector it works well.

I've this version installed in another laptop and has tried on all affected models and it works well with no modifications or any additional tricks.

My Old E46 from year 2000 had both 16pin by driver dashboard and 20pin in the engine compartment. Its common by cars from around 2000
But i think e46 you have is not so old and have only 16pin.
Anyway if you can acces the car with another install and same iCOM there is something with the new install thats obvious.

You are right, arround 2000 there where cars like E38/39 who has a 16Pin OBD2 at the driver dashboard and also a 21pin connector at the engine.
BUT on this 16Pin OBD2 Connector there was only pin7 (without Pin8!) and it´s connected to Pin2 of the 20pin connector at the engine bay! If the closure is on the 20pin connector you can diagnose over the OBD2 ONLY the DME/DDE and the EGS. All other Ecu´s you need to acces over the 21pin connector at the engine.

Got but error on start up anyone have fix ? do I need to update to 3.51.13 1st then 3.51.25 ?
