@vld

You not right, DHCP server is on ICOM since several versions. It can be activated with any tool like ISTA with simple Job, apiJob("W2V","steuern_dhcp_control_str","YES;192.168.4.0;255.255.255.0","")

Thanks for the clarification, I was under the impression that it was in ISTA.

Apparently I didn't understand correctly.

How can I use this command with which tool?
For example if I want to use it with E-Sys and activated DHCP.

ICOM defaults to this address in DHCP mode by default. HOWEVER on newer firmwares if ICOM is set to DHCP AND it does not get DHCP OFFER within some timeframe since Ethernet link is established... it begins activating it's own DHCP server. After it starts, ICOM get's an address assigned by it's internal DHCP server. And it's this 192.168.4.1.

IP address of computer ALSO CHANGES after this, because computer ALSO sends DHCP DISCOVER messages periodically, NOT just once or twice. And eventually it gets DHCP OFFER from ICOM's internal DHCP. Followed by DHCP ACQUIRE/DHCP ACK packets pair.

Now if ICOM gets DHCP OFFER in time after establishing ethernet link from external (to ICOM) DHCP server, then it does not enable it's internal DHCP server, and the external DHCP is responsible for automatic IP configurations in the network.

In my shop I have DHCP server for quick operations. If I need to go offsite to a broken car, I really appreciate this new ICOM's internal DHCP. And then I'm happy to wait for a minute or two for it to kick in.

Much appreciate your clarifications!

[ Questions ]
1. Did you have a BMW or other source's reference/documentation to learn this about the ICOM NEXT? If so, I'd appreciate it if you would share what it is, and how it can be acquired.

2. Regarding when ICOM's internal DHCP server is "activated" and the "IP address of computer ALSO CHANGES", is it possible to select directly(or setup indirectly) a specific IP for the computer through settings in either the ICOM or the computer? If so, ...

3. Does ISTA have to be run(open) for the computer to be assigned its IP or will ICOM's DHCP server assign the computer the IP without ISTA(or other software) intervention?

Thank you...

I just connect the iCOM to the car and let the ISTA does all the work.
