I wanted to say that Atmega pins 1,2 and 3 are connected to MCP2515 anything there.
yes I understood you. I checked that ATmega162 pin 1 is connected to mcp2515 pin 14, Pin 2 to pin 15 and pin 3 to pin 13. And that there are no problems with the connections. I checked them because I thought I might have shorted one of the pins. But that cannot be the case because the flash programming was fine.

Vary rare MCP2515 is defective
And all of this only because the car and from time to time because the poor factory quality
As i told you a HQ clone it has a TVS diode on CAN BUS for protection
Good luck
OK I found someone local who can supply MCP2551 which I believe is compatible with TJA1050. Do you know if they are oK ?

RE: MY VCDS COLLECTION - ALL YOU NEED I HOPE - mattydr67 - 04-05-2016

Mate
You have there two diffrent CAN trancivers
One is TJA1050 and the other one is MCP2515
What compatibility are you talking about
Check first continuity between OBD connector pins 6 and 7 to TJA1050
If this ok then change the TJA1050 itself
After this if all is OK then change the MCP2515
If after this still no CAN comunication ..... there's one more thing ( this I will not tell you I will let you discover it by yourself )
But I belive that it will fix your tool
Good luck

I know TJA1050 is a CAN Transceiver (made by NXP) and the MCP2515 is a CAN Controller made by MCP.
MCP also make a CAN Transceiver named MCP2551 (the number is similar to 2515 for the controller).
The MCP2551 is pin-compatible with TJA1050.
See attached data sheet.
I was asking you had come across this 2551 transceiver to replace the 1050?

I checked and OBD-Pin 6 is connected to TJA1050-Pin 7; OBD-Pin 14 to TJA-1050-Pin 6.

So I'll try replacing TJA1050 (either with another TJA1050 or equivalent MCP2551).

Mnnn....that's sounds very intriguing wink2

Sorry
Yes MCP2551 can replace TJA1050
I thougt you are talking about the other CAN Controler MCP 2515
Good luck

Thanks matty.
I have ordered replacement chips.
Will see next week if it solves the problem.

No Joy I am afraid.

Replaced the TJA1050 with MCP2551 and still get "CAN: No Ready" after plugging it into the car (Ignition on).

Next, I replaced the MCP2515 with a new one. Checked all the connections.
Still get "CAN: No Ready" after plugging it into the car (Ignition on).

So far I have:

1. Replaced the FT232BL firmware with a BL EPT
2. Replaced the ATmega flash and is now V1.92
3. Replaced ATmega EEPROM
4. Replaced the CAN Transceiver (TJA1050)
5. Replaced the CAN Controller (MCP2515)
5. Tried VCDS 11.11.0, 11.11.5 and 12.12.0...and all give "CAN: Not Ready"

dontknow what next ?

RE: MY VCDS COLLECTION - ALL YOU NEED I HOPE - mattydr67 - 09-05-2016

Tested VCDS 11.11.0, 11.11.5 and 12.12.0 ??????
WOW what dump did you used mate?
Is very important to use a good dump and after a TEST in a VCDS version you need to have Activated/Registred serial in ABOUT
Then you can check the CAN BUS
Good luck

Here it is the schematic

RE: MY VCDS COLLECTION - ALL YOU NEED I HOPE - macNB - 09-05-2016

Thanks for reply Matty and for the schematic. I already had that and is the one I have been using to check the connections.

The dumps I used are from fantomel in post #1 in this thread (see attached).

1. VCDSFT232BL.ept
2. flash_192.hex
3. vers-6-11.11.5-12.12.0_eeprom-512-RL.hex

11.11.0 is the version that came with the cable.
11.11.5 and 12.12.0 are from fantomel in post #1 in this thread.

With 11.11.0, VCDS is unregistered/not-activated.
With 11.11.5 & 12.12.0 are both registered/activated in the ABOUT after TEST.

Could it be a s/w problem after all (with the dumps) ?

RE: MY VCDS COLLECTION - ALL YOU NEED I HOPE - mattydr67 - 09-05-2016

No
Its hardware issue
Check Y3 in the schematic ( better change it )
Take care I had once a n issue with one of tool in the past
Same CAN BUs defective
I bought the components from TME ( TJA1050, MCP2515 and Qurtz 16.000 )
I changed all the 3 components 6 times ( 6 X TJA1050/MCP2515/16.000)
After all of this I gived up and I bought a new tool
After 6 mounts I had a tool to fix it and I recived another one to take components
I fixed that tool and then I thought to take the quertz 16.000 from that bad tool ( the one for takes component to replace -I think you understand what I mean ) and I said lets change again only the quartz 16.000 ( the one from that bad tool ) and replaced in my old tool that I gived it up to fix it
What do you think that it happend? "It was back to live" and CAN BUS worked again
So I changed 6 X TJA1050/MCP2515/Quartz 16.000 preatty new gtom TME and no way to fix it and using a old used quartz I fix it my tool
So if all wires are good and you already changed the MCP2551 and MCP2515 the try to changer the quratz 16.000 ( Y3 in the schematic ) too
Good luck
