VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - Thorsten - 20-10-2025 Hello, the VAG world is new to me. Years ago, I used VCDS, but only for basic tasks. Now, I’d like to ask you about VAG’s SFD2 security and its impact on retrofits. As an example, we have a VW Caddy, latest generation, built in 2025 (or possibly end of 2024 — I don’t remember exactly, sorry). We’d like to retrofit a backup camera to this vehicle. Could you tell me if this is possible? Or is it blocked by VAG, as mentioned in another thread: "TMBJR8NX4SY064142 is the facelift of Octavia IV, so SFD2 locked everything. You will need to buy a specific code to enable the towbar for this VIN. As far as I know, these SWAP codes are still not available and can’t be purchased yet." Thanks, Thorsten RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - slackers - 21-10-2025 As far as I'm aware SFD2 means no retrofits unless it's VW Approved and being done by them. Originally Kufatec also said no retrofits on SFD2 vehicles but actually they've changed their line on the individual product pages to say "If you are unable to perform the commissioning yourself, or if it is an SFD2 vehicle (More information can be found here) for which commissioning is mandatory, we offer an optional one-time remote commissioning service." That would seem to indicate they can do it maybe but assume the cost is high and certainly not as easy as the older days where you could buy used parts of eBay and then activate them yourself. I did see on another forum that Bosch KTS 560 with subscription can also access SFD2 cars (and other protected brands) but the cost for this tool is around €3000 plus a subscription on top, making it almost useless for hobbyists/single odd retrofits. RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - billyleon - 21-10-2025 I don't know about retrofit but one day my friend He takes a program 150€ The software is on his phone he works with Android and ios is in English he closes the Wifi on his phone and he have access with SFD model Audi 2024 and we open the brakes!! It works with Bluetooth. And you can download data i think for the most marks. RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - jokir - 21-10-2025 There are already people who can calculate SFD2 based on the data set that needs to be generated for the correct calculation. A token is needed to encode in each unit. One token starts at around 100€. this is what it looks like "vin": "TMBGR6NW9Sxxxxxx", "tasks": [ { "ecu": "5F", "challenge": "65367334060D2B06010401990A8D110A02007553235944372D30303232342E30322E323530333237313339310000011800000xxxxxxxxxxx", "data": [ { "token": "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", "rfids": { "0505": "780805" RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - b1tshi1ft - 22-10-2025 (21-10-2025, 16:00 PM)billyleon Wrote: I don't know about retrofit but one day my friend What you are referring to above is role based SFD (=SFD1). SFD2 is not an "update" or "higher security level" of SFD1. So don't mix things up. SFD2 is just an end-to-end backend cryption (same as or based on SFD1) but its purpose is to secure and log modifications in detail. SFD1 is just role based without any control about what is modified offline after role is un-l0cked. Can only encourage anyone out there to understand that. RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - cicoe - 22-10-2025 Making SFD2 changes is a waste of time. At the first visit to the dealer, Odis Service will always do SVM of all modules touched and the retrofit job will be lost. HI, this is 100% sure? So only from VAG side allowed retrofits will be safe, liketrailer tow hitch? As soon as somebody (not just dealer) runs server based parametrization via VAG backend everything will be overwritten with the settings as they are supposed to be according to the original vehicle setup. Or to be more precise: to the vehicle setup that is stored (which can also contain an officially added modification). But that fact does not have anything to do with SFD (1 or 2) at all. That will happen regardless of having units with SFD. It's a matter of fact due to the nature online parametrization will always restore the logged/stored information for the vehicle using its VIN. It is not about "allowed" retrofits. It is about the vehicle setup listed on VAG backends (PR numbers). If a retrofit is officially changed/added on VAG backends it's all fine. If not, vehicle will always get parameter written that go along with the setup that is listed on backend. Pretty simple actually. RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - cicoe - 24-10-2025 From what I've seen Odis Service will always do SVM if the machine has SFD2, with SFD1 it was not like that. Apart from the rear-view camera for some cars, there aren't many official retrofits anymore. RE: VAG SFD2 and retrofits - what is possible - simaservis1108 - 24-10-2025 Yes,as soon as you login and detect the car, specified and actual comparison is made. All changes get lost... |
