Thanks for sharing! I'd like to update to 17.8, despite all the tutorials I'm still a bit confused. I hope somebody can provide me the answers.
- Hardware: chinese interface, red pcb, stc chip, atmega162, hw 0x46, mcp2515, ft232RL, vcds15.7, USBASP-interface.
1) Some tutorials describe that I need to remove the STC chip + R51 & D7 next to it, others say you can just cut the line 9 from STC to R50.. Is cutting STC line 9 to R50 enough?
2) Got no Pin-out on my clone, only empty connections G T R V. Can I use them or do I need to make the connection directly on the atmega162 and mcp2515?
3) I know I should use file Flash1.96 and eepromavr in ProgISP. But do I need ftd2xx.dll, ftdi_mprog.ept, ftdi_ft_prog and eepromftdi?
4) If I use the ProgISP and follow the fantomel tutorial steps, I don't need USBASP_write_0x46.cmd right?
5) After connecting MOSI, RESET, SCK, MISO, GROUND and VCC +5V, I need to connect 12V right? Is this info correct? +12V to Pin 16 of the OBDII connector & -12V to both Pins 4 & 5 of the OBDII connector and one of the following: Pins 4, 6, 8, or 10 on the USBasp connector.
6) First things first.. Is this the correct order? 1. Install 17.8 VCDS 2. Copy the Loader and make a shortcut. 3. remove or cut STC 4. connect all wires to USBASP 5. Provide 12V on the interface 6. Connect USB programmer and install drivers 7. Test connection, flash everything 8. Disconnect all wires 9. Enjoy VCDS 17.8?

1. stc u can remove or u can cut line, both do same thing, takes it out of circuit
2. NO, use any connection method from pdf pins or to other chips
3. use mprog and ept file to go from china FA30 pid invention to regular one FA24 for RL RQ interfaces and FA20 for BM, BL interface
4. .cmd file is for avr dude, progisp is more friendly this is why i put it there. You can use any atmega162 programmer as you have flash and eeprom files separated and fuses are well known.
5. you have 2 variants: 5V from programmer to interface or 12v external. I prefer for stability 12V external and no voltage from programmer. From programmer just 4 atmega pins and gnd from it to interface, and 12v external direct in obd socket.

@fantomel Thank you. Just a couple more questions:
1) So I just Load the ept file in Mprog, click 'scan for devices', click 'erase all devices', click 'program devices'? I don't have anything to do with eepromftdi.bin and ftdi_ft_prog.xml?
2) You said using Mprog to go from product ID FA30 to FT24, but If I load the ept file it says product ID FA24??
3) Should I use Mprog before or after ProgISP

Polish and English 17.1.3 works OK.
Tested win xp and win7.

Fantomel made a keyboard mistake, FA24 is RQ or RL interface and FA20 is BM BL interface.
Some chinese invented FA30 that never existed.
If that is the case flash by mprog or ftprog ept or xml for your chip (rl=fa24) then program your interface. It does not matter order if you use a programmer.

Hey i have china 15.7. It's with STC chip and HW 0x46. So can i update it simple via USB?
i plugged it via USB and HW detect does not detect my cable, should i first remove STC chip, or connect ąčv to OBD pin?
