BMW ISPI ICOM-FW 03-15-02 (UNPROTECTED) - aknight720 - 23-08-2017

In the later ICOM Firmware (03-15-00 +), BMW have decided to close ssh if you do not have the public key, also they have added RSA signed firmware, which means you cannot downgrade to an older firmware version because they are not signed.

In the attached link are 3 files:-

Use this if you *have* already upgraded to 03-15-00 or 03-15-02

ICOM_Restore.bin - a custom restore image which will restore to the latest firmware but unprotected.

Use the files below, if you have *not* already updated to 03-15-00 or 03-15-02

ICOM-BootImage-01-26-00c.bin - this contains the *FIX* for ssh.

ICOM-ApplicationImage-01-41-02c.bin - this contains a patch to bypass the need for signed firmware.

No other aspects of the firmware have been changed and it is 100% safe to use like the original firmware.

NOTE: I have a version ready for ICOM-Next, but would need someone to donate a unit for testing.

I've got an extra ICOM NEXT Genuine lying around if you're stateside.

I use the web browser for many upgrades etc but it's easier to just use ISTA. I edited the .xml files from the default msi installation to point to your modified images and replaced the MD5 hash with a hash of your files. Will this work to trick ISTA into flashing your images instead of the unmodified image?

If you have done it correct, I see no reason this would not work.

Cool I'll share the XMLs if anyone else prefers ISTA interface instead of web browser.

Simply place OP's files in the appropriate data directory, default: C:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\ICOM\ICOM-Image-3-15-02
If you have already installed using the unmodified .msi, this directory will already have the protected image files and XML files, the image files can be left as is, must be deleted, moved to a new directory, or renamed like in the screenshot below. the XMLs and original .bin files need to be renamed similarly to the way I did it in the following photo.
copy these highlighted files from the .7z archive and ISTA will be be tricked into upgrading OP's files via ISTA connection manager. Tested successfully.
