ISTA/D 2.36_ISTA/P 2.50.2 combined VM image, ISTA MOD and ICOM emulator V3.1 - beemerboy88 - 21-03-2014

ISTA/D 2.36_ISTA/P 2.50.2 combined VM image (2013), ISTA EMU MOD and ICOM emulator V3.1 (2013).

Here's ISTAD/P combined VM.

Included is my updated version of icom emulator V3.1 from 2013 and ISTA EMU mod (to use the emulator with the combined vm you need to apply the mod. See below for more info).

How to install:

1. Extract the ISTA combined image and V3.1 emu mod.
2. Open the ISTA vmdk with WinMount and mount partition index no.2. Copy the app folder from the mod to /app/wsm/. Overwrite the existing files when prompted. Then unmount the vmdk. (use screenshots below as a guide)

3. extract the icom emulator.

4. Now open ista and icom emulator in VMware workstation.

Notes:

1. The ISTA vm is unprotected so can be started normally.
2. You need to start the emulator using the snapshots.
3. Network adaptor no 1 in the ista vm and icom emulator vm settings needs to be set to custom(vmnet2).

Don't forget to say "thanks"

Update: 26/6/14 - ICOM emulator v3.1 Rev(b) - some bug fixes.

Still I need emu dongle or I'm doing something wrong?

I think you're supposed to load the vm snapshot for use without the dongle.

Hello:

Where is the EMU mod located to copy over the /wsam/apps folder?

Thanks!

Does this allow ISTA/P to be used with regular K-CAN USB cable?

Have a look at the info in the attachments in post #1

yes

RE: ISTA/D 2.36_ISTA/P 2.50.2 combined VM image, ISTA MOD and ICOM emulator V3.1 - blueman2 - 27-03-2014

I have this installed as guided in this thread. Running both programs in VMWare. All seems OK except it will not connect to my K-CAN USB. A few questions:

1) The networks connector in ICOM and ISTA VMs are both Custom (Vnet2). But when I look at properties, both are set to Vnet0. I tried resetting to Vnet2, but they keep going back to Vnet0. Is that OK?

2) I run the D-CAN version of ICOM VM snapshot, then the ISTA VM program. Does the order of starting matter?

3) I noticed that my USB D-CAN was connected to ISTA VM and not to ICOM VM. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting to ICOM VM but that did not help. But I assume D-CAN should be active on the ICOM VM, right? It shows up under Device manager as COM9, which I also assume is the correct port(?).

4) I noticed detailed process in a PDF to set up for D-CAN vs other interfaces. Do I need to do all those steps or have those already been done in the VMs included?

If anyone who has gotten this running with D-CAN can give advice, I would appreciate.

I've set most of it up for you so to use k+dcan usb:

1. start ista and wait until it fully loads up to the main screen (may take 5-10 minutes).

2. start icom emulator using k+dcan snapshot

3. connect dcan usb and make it active in the icom vm only. Drivers should then self install. Set com port to com9 and latency timer to 1. (take a snapshot and label it "k+dcan configured" and next time start it using that snapshot).

4. then run ifhsrv32.exe from the icom vm desktop.

5. now go to ista and start a session. icom should appear in connection manager.

note: if icom does not appears then it means either:

a) you have not applied the mod correctly. Recheck that it got saved when you unmounted the vmdk.
b) the vms are not set to custom(vmnet2). They should be set by default to this.

6. Test. Best to do a quick test without it connected to a car first (led on k+dcan should start to flash if it is set up correctly).

Here's some videos I created a while ago which may help. Some of it does not apply (i.e the dongle part) but it should give you an idea on how to use the software. (run them "as administrator").

RE: ISTA/D 2.36_ISTA/P 2.50.2 combined VM image, ISTA MOD and ICOM emulator V3.1 - blueman2 - 28-03-2014

Thanks for the help! Still no joy in getting a connection (ICOM interface does not show up in ISTA/P or D, but I will try some more options. I did copy the 'apps' folder over and unmounted. I will play around some more to try to figure this out. Kind of fun working out a puzzle like this! wink

EDIT: Well, after a couple more hours, I am close to admitting failure! I just cannot get the ICOM interface to show up in ISTA Connection Manager. It must be something to do with the network settings. Is it OK that I continue to have my internet plugged in, or does this require I remove cables. Also, does my PC need to be at some specific IP address?

Sorry to take your time, but I really appreciate your help so far!

I assume you are using the ISTA version and ICOM emulator version posted here and not another version you have downloaded elsewhere??? I've just done a quick re-check and everything works fine using the procedures I posted.

So maybe it will be easier and quicker if you just install teamviewer so I can check your setup remotely. PM me your teamviewer id and password.
