Can f series flash counters be reset? - Mr Bimmer - 26-02-2018

Does anyone know of a tool or method to reset the flash counters in f series modules? My dme has had 12 flashes and I’d like to roll it back to a lower number. I’d like to roll a few others back too but the dme is my main concern.

Thanks

You can see it in e-sys transmitter or tool32.

You will need to open the DDE and make a dump file from the main processor.
Find a correct dump file and then re write the dump to the processor again.
This would be an easy job for a tuning company or someone whp has knowledege about engin optimizing. I wouldnt recomend you to try doing this yourself.

Thanks, So no way via OBD port then ?

Unfortunately not.

You can reset it VIA OBDII if your vehicle has an MEVD17* That is tunable VIA OBDII. I’ve seen it done many times over but it will not be cheap. If your concerns are warranty seeing the flash counter and this is why you want to reset it, this is the last of your worries.

So once it’s been tuned via obd, there’s no way of hiding it? Even by reverting to stock? sweating

FATSA is located some place in the DME for the motor. FATSA data will log max values (power, torque, speed limiter, red line and etc.) Once the vehicle is tuned and higher power values are recorded the flash counter is irrelevant. It is more simple for the factory to view the FATSA data vs remotely logging in and reading the flash counter. FATSA data is automatically transferred anytime the vehicle is connected at the dealer.

You must keep in mind, 1000s of vehicles pass through every day with only a handful of eyes approving each claim. Only time a vehicle will have the FATSA data reviewed is a red flag is raised, the tech can not figure it out, or you are just unlucky.

When tuners bring up flash counters they are trying to say you can flash as many changes you like without reaching the max allowed flashes. If they are hinting it will help hide the fact the car was tuned, well that is just rubbing.
