Retrofitted Kombi High in E90 - ISTA-P wants to replace it - umutbulut - 10-03-2018

Hello CT users,

i have a problem concerning ISTA-P on my 2008 LCI 320d E90 after retrofitting a Kombi "High". Besides ISTA-P all is working fine. My VIN has been written to the EEPROM/NVM, kilometers are correct, speed limiter is working including the white marker in the outer ring etc.

During the last service at BMW my car was updated to the actual I-Level E89X-16-11-500 since i replaced the JBE with a JBE3. Before going to the service i let ISTA-P calculate a measure plan and it wanted to replace the new kombi. So i put in the old kombi low during the servie and all went fine. If i now calculate the measures plan ISTA-P states that there's nothing to do, see pictures 1 and 2.

Afterwards i retrofitted the Kombi high another time and again everything is working fine except ISTA-P. It wants to replace the kombi again, see pictures 3 and 4.

The kombi high is a used one from a E91 LCI 325d (VIN:
WBAVU71070KG93526) so there should be no problem.

Can anybody tell me what to do so that ISTA-P accepts my new kombi and let me update it?

Click on to the High Kombi ECU and exclude it from the measurement plan.

Thanks, i could do that. But i want to update it and i don't know the correct ZUSB.

Furthermore i think the BMW dealer can't do it and i don't have a ICOM myself, only D-CAN.

Are you sure that part number is suitable for your car? Some part numbers cross for eahother. Some do not.

Part number isn't suitable and ISTA ask you to install correct part number kombi.
From technical point of view all kombi can work correct, but as BMW part releases have chain, ISTA follow the chain.
So, you have two options:
- change kombi with correct number in chain
- leave it as is and not worry about ISTA.

You take a big risk with D-CAN.

You will not do anything with istaP,
I even tried to add ZUSB nr in ista P but nothing helps,
I have a different DDE number zusb, it can not even be removed from the upgrade plan
expert mode, how to remove this istaP adds it again,
you can use winkfpt to make KOMBI updates
And of course K_DCAN is not suitable for DCAN programming
use ICOM

No worries, i won't update anything using D-CAN. I only use it to check via ISTA-P if any updates are available or not.

Can you tell me how to find out then newest ZUSB for my kombi without ISTA-P?

You can use WinKFP for that. Update ZUSB, select ECU family and then it will show you in confirmation which ZUSB it wants to upload. If it differs from current, that means that it could be updated.
