Engine difference n54 - Patrick11021979 - 09-02-2019

Hello Guys...

Does someone know the exact difference between the engine of a bmw 335i n54 and bmw 335i biturbo alpina?
Ik know different pistons, headgasket... But is the shortblock an cranckshaft also different?

I am not building one, have to rebuild one, but can't believe short block is different than an original one.... What i see on alpina website, is different pistons, and headgaskets. I have an engine with cranckshaft damage, so i wanted to know if a normal 335i engine cranckshaft is the same as an alpina...

Chances are they are the same. The latest crankshaft (11217527881, without bearing shells) was used across BMW's entire lineup of N54-based cars, including the 335is and 1M. Owners with tuned N54s (such as myself) don't normally upgrade the crankshaft, and we can easily hit ~400HP with a JB4 on stock internals. I'm betting this part was more than adequate for the Alpina B3.

Difference are only the pistons (lower compression than the stock engine) The headgasket is a metal version.

Take a look at the beginning of the ALPINA ETK you have to see it as an additional version to the BMW ETK.

Only ALPINA parts and not clear percetible BMW parts which are different to the basic car are listed.
For BMW parts the BMW parts catalogue has to be used.

The abbreviations used in several columns on the text lines have the following meanings:
1. item column (POS): picture number equal to the shown part, o.A. = not pictured
2. expression column
3. part number column
4. model column: wanted quantity; x = quantity is required
5. RHD-column: RHD-vehicle R = only for RHD-vehicle L = only for LHD vehicle
6. AWD - column: A = only for all wheel vehicle, R = only for rear wheel drive vehicle
7. remarks column (REM): a, b, c, ... country specification, use from/ up to, other Information.

A: part number exchangeable with the one mentioned in the next line
E: part Number Is cancelled
W: part number is used alternatively by the one standing either befor it or afterwards (also marked with „W")
The nomenclature of the catalouge group overview is the same as the BMW ETK.

Base engine of the B3 and B3s is the N54B30A (O0) from the BMW 335i (E9x)/335xi (E9x)/335i

Now you can start working with the parts catalogue.
