BMW F36 HU NBT replacement - Joe2 - 19-02-2019

Hello everybody,

Friend has a car BMW 4 series F36 from 10 2014 with replaced NBT head unit.

I was reading through forum and google about VIN change, coding and FSC codes.

I am a little confiused. I would like to ask you all for help in understanding by below questions :

For replaced unit :

1. How VIN in NBT is changed ? It is during coding by E-sys or reprograming is needed ? (I am not talking about FSC VIN)

2. Unit does not starts (display does not show anything), but in e-sys there is communicaton with it (FSC status can be checked). Is it due to some wire/dispaly problem or due to wrong VIN ?

3. Can I replace/erase FSC codes wihtout buying anything in BMW for original car vin ?

4. Does change VIN in FSC-extended e-sys menu will damage FSC codes ?

5. Can I leave FSC codes from donor VIN ? I guess bluetooth and maps update will not work ?

Thanks for any systematization of knowleadge by answers about this topic !

1. Either with VO coding the NBT unit, or with FSC Extended > WriteDataByIdentifierVin

2. What is build year of car? Did it had NBT EVO or NBT as HU before? If you can communicate with NBT and check FSC's, the unit is started. Do you have ISTA to read error codes?

3. Yes, you can either buy FSC pack with modified rootcertificate to match your VIN, or use Emulator to keep using original FSC's

4. Yes, if there is a VIN mismatch, all FSC's currently stored in HU will get rejected

5. Yes, you can leave from donor vin, but you will need a NBT emulator in order to filter CAN messages checking VIN NBT <> FEM etc.
