Help Please! CIC Map Update and Navigation not working - Alwilco - 17-05-2019

Hi All,
Need some urgent help please!
We completed a map update on a customer F30 CIC system.
The update went ok and seemed to be working ok and showing the new version.
A few hours later, they sent us the attached pic when they entered the navigation option. The message just says:
"Function Currently Not Available"

Any ideas or approaches would be really welcome on how to remedy this for them please? We are a bit stuck at what to do next.

Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions or advice offered.

Some kind of FSC error, but without code reading not possible to say what kind of.

First try to reinstall map, if not possible you need ISTA do diagnose the error and probably
reinstal FSC or any other tool capable of reading/writing FSCs.

I have seen the exact error before on a CIC with a faulty drive.  Probably the CIC says "starting navigation" and then after a while it comes up with the error as it can't read the map.  In case you don't know the CIC operating system is in flash memory and not on the HDD so the fact that it boots does not prove the HDD is working.
My suggestion would be to see if any stored music can be played.  That is music that has been imported into the CIC.  If it can't then the HDD is probably stuffed and needs replacing.
If the music can be played then it is probable that the map is corrupt or has some bad HDD blocks in it.  So try upgrading again as others have suggested.
The map partition can be thought to be in two halves.  One half is where the current map is.  When you update the map it is written into the other half so you don't overwrite current one.  This means you can continue to use navigation while the upgrade is going on and if something goes wrong with the upgrade you still have a working map.  Once the upgrade has finished the CIC will swap to this other half.  What it does mean is that the new map is in an area that hasn't been used in a while and could be faulty.  Upgrading again will put the new map into the area that was used by the old map that seemed to be good.

Awesome reply,  that makes a lot of sense and gives me some great direction when I look at the customers F30 again.
Many thanks!
