1999 BMW E38 740i Retrofitiing E39 M5 / E53 X5 4.6/4.8 Cluster - m3nt4l - 10-06-2019

Good Afternoon,

I have had a strange request from a friend. He has the above vehicle and is looking at retroffiting a new cluster to it. He has been told it is plug and play but the rev counter LED and Oil temperature gauge will need programming in.

Does anyone know what coding steps are needed for this?

Thanks

Oil temp comes from DME via CAN bus, but it's available only with 4.6/4.8L engine.

Some people have managed to get this working on other forums but no one has put up a DIY in relation to doing this.

I will let my friend know what you have said.

Thank you for your help.

How about flashing 4.4 DME with 4.6 software?

It's better to use compatible (but not so fancy) instrument cluster rather than having incompatible software running on your engine. IMHO.
