DL501 tuned file software compatibility - dlj123 - 05-02-2023

Hi All,

I had an original stock FRF file from my Audi DL501 transmission sent to several tuners a while back and they sent back the tuned/modified file.
Neither tuner ever explained what tool I would need to use to write the file back to the TCU and the file has no extension on it.

Can someone please inspect the files attached and let me know if they are ok and what format they are in, eg. BIN and also what tool, eg. PCM, KESS, VCP etc. I should use to write.

I have already tried many times to contact the tuners but I believe they were based in Ukraine or Russia and neither are responding.

Note: The DL501 is a Gen2 from a 2014 Audi A5 (ROW) and the software version and file sent was 8K9927156C ver. 0005

Thanks in advance! happy

which is your sent file ? and which is tuned?
both uploaded files are in same extension.
upload your ori frf and can check if tuned's frf or bin.

btw , you can check by using separating tools from frf to bin, and if it will convert with success , then your tuned files are in frf.

Thanks for the reply.

I have attached an updated links file with a link to the original FRF file. The file size is much smaller than the 2 tuned files but needed to know if they are BIN format or not and if they seem ok (not corrupted and complete, etc.)

Are the tuned files (the first 2 links in the attached TXT file) in BIN format? If they are are you able to convert to FRF or SGO for me?

The Winols 156C is a Gen1, 1536kb, is the size for this type of units. On bench normally.

Also why you mention bench, can it not be done via OBD using Kess (it has option for writing for that TCU - hardware model = 0B5927156J )?

The info from OBDeleven;

System Description = 0B5 20TFSIRdW
Identifier = J217
Hardware Number = 0B5927156J
Software Number = 8K9927156C
Software Version = 0005
Coding = 000001
ODX Name = EV_TCMDL501021
VIN = WAUZZZ8T3EA013405

both tuned files are in bin. not frf.
you can just write in bench. Only thing - they are for same HW, but size is different. To choose right, just read you TCU in bench, and see what size will be flash. then write tuned file with the same as ori size.
If you upload ori from tcu, i can check and help you to configure also second tuned file (which will be different size, not as ori).

Thanks for getting back to me and providing this info.

I wasn't able to do a full read using KESS or VCP it only allows 'virtual' read but the FRF file I uploaded in the last attachment is the current file in my TCU because I flashed it recently using ODIS-E. That FRF is the file I then sent to 2 different tuners but for some reason they came back as 2 different sizes and not sure why and also not sure which one I should try so was hoping someone could open/read the files and tell me which one looks correct.
