Bmw 2010 f07 updates - mgs41987 - 16-07-2023

Hi guys, I have been doing a lot of reading about updating my maps, one key comment is if I’m on original maps which I am I would need to update the idrive firmware first or it will freeze in the install or have issues else where. From what I have read you can update via usb if that’s true I don’t know. I have been on the bmw website and it’s asks me to put my vin in to check for updates but it fails to check

Is this a ista p only job, I have a meet cable which isn’t advisable for ista p

Wondering if anyone can help

Normally I would agree but after the research apparently the big jump will make it not update and get stuck in boot loop and among various other things

Can You give me source ? Never had issue in F series.
Had problem with very old CIC in E series only.

IMHO your question is wrong because it's too general. It's NOT that you GENERALLY need to do that.

But with CICs IN PARTICULAR the firmware of older ones does not support USB updates, you can update through DVDs ONLY. Probably not relevant with CIC-Highs on F series.

Next, you have NOT specified whether you have CIC-High or CIC-Mid (or AT LEAST map type). Then you have NOT specified WHICH REGION you are IN. Then you have NOT specified the proper DATE of your car's build including month. And I suspect you specified year of first registration, NOT MANUFACTURE!???

ALL that is relevant because there is also a caveat with SOME CIC-MIDs IN PARTICULAR (approximately 2009-09 to 2010-03 production) where they have smaller flash size (8GB) and they will NOT fit for example newest Europe West maps.
